Hi,

Can you tell me the age of your Xsara?

It is likely that it is not OBD2/EOBD compliant I'm afraid. Diesel EU cars were not required to be compliant until 2004.

Hi Gareth
Thanks for the quick reply the Citroen is 2002 about three months ago I had it diagnosed by a local garage the mechanic found couple of faults he reset the ECU he was using something similar to ELM interface that is why I bought my from the eBay asked the seller whether he could help in this matter not much help was forthcoming from him my PC recognizes the interface it goes through the routine of looking for my ECU and you can see all the lights flashing on the interface but will not connect asked the mechanic at the garage which interface did he use the wants to keep it a secret I don't blame him it is his living

Best bet is to use some of the HyperTerminal commands to interogate the ECU and see if it reports that it is OBD2/EOBD compliant.

Have a look on the Elm Electronics web-site for details of the commands that the chip accepts.
