Hi PPE

I was intrigued to find this thread and hear about your fully configurable skinable touch screen friendly product. I downloaded it, but the demo does not give me much. Forum did not give me much either.

I want to know if it works with my hardware (and car, a BMW325ti -01) and how configurable it is.

I want a trip computer more or less. Distance, time of trip, fuel consumption, average speed, distance left in tank, outdoor temp... That kind of stuff.

I do not want speed, revs, oiltemp, watertemp... Things that I can see already elsewhere.

If it does what I want I do not mind spending $25 on a license.

What kind of hardware interface do you use? Our DashCommand™ software (currently) supports all flavors of ELM style interfaces and clones.

As for the configurability - it is very configurable. You can change the look and feel of the dashboard completely.

Unfortunately, our DashCommand™ software only supports generic OBD-II parameters currently. However, ambient air temperature is one of the generic parameters.

For the others - distance travelled, time of trip, fuel consumption, etc. you would need to create custom calculations based on the parameters available. Our PCMSCAN™ software supports a custom Javascript parameter system that will let you do just this. In fact, there are already example scripts for fuel economy, fuel flow rate, and boost.

Unfortunately, PCMSCAN™ is not as easy to embed into a front end as DashCommand™ is. But people have been able to do it. This thread is an example of one guy embedding it.

Please let me know if you have any more questions (or feature requests), and I'd be happy to assist.

Thanks for your reply. I've had a readthru of your pointers.

It seems like PCMSCAN is doing what I want. I just need the javascripts and a wrapper for the whole thing to make it work nice with RR. (If I've got it right)

I don't know how many that is acctually using OBDII. I think that the info I want (remaining distance on tank, average speed, average consumption, trip start time and duration, total trip distance...) is what people in general is after. What I'm saying is that something like that is not available at the moment (?) and that OBDII probably would be a lot more popular if there was.

If there was an application like that I would gladly pay upto say $40. I've spent a hundred on the OBDII interface already :-)

At the time this is of "nice to have" priority for me. I've got bigger hurdles to climb at the time :-)

Not knowing how far RR has gone since I last looked at it (flash an all), this is what I want if someone is in the business for this:
I would like it to work as a pop-up that stays up for maybe 60s and does not cover the full screen. It slides into screen and slides out. On it are fields for each data with explanation and a ticking clock.

Looks like i have succedded in embedding DashCommand

Looks pretty good IMO.

Just one thing i would like from DashCommand (if PPE - Brian is viewing) is it possiblt to have another 'option' box which removes the top title and menu bar. If i embed in 'full screen' mode, it doesn't embed properly. So an option to remove the menu and title bar will tidy it up nicely i think since there are no real benefits to having that bar visible.

Cheers.

Thanks dmistry !

The base Skin is called Simplistique, however, it has since it was developed some considerable time again, been heavily moddified and built on by me.

What skin are you using and how confident are you about skin building.

More than happy to share what i have done, its what this site is all about.

The other option is that i lay the skin out for you.

For those who know how to skin edit, you will need the following.

Create a skin page with a predefined "Application" area.

Here is an example of such, call it obd.skin

MEDIACAR Skin
MEDIACAR MM Skin
obd_OFF.jpg,obd_OFF.jpg,obd_ON.jpg,obd_DOWN.jpg
/, B, x, y, w, h, Command;COMMANDCODES, Tooltip
B21,1,523,110,79,"CLOSE","Exit"
/, L, x, y, w, h, color R;RGB, G, B, font size;FONT, font name, Code;LABELCODES, Tooltip;LABELALIGNMENT
L01,283,31,74,35,255,102,0,18,"Digital Readout Thick Upright:B","REMAININGTRACKTIME",""
L02,6,31,268,35,255,102,0,18,"Digital Readout Thick Upright:B","/ ||TAGARTIST||= - ||TAGTITLE||=","SCROLL-LEFT"
/, A, x, y, w, h, color R;RGB, G, B
A01,0,81,800,440,000,000,000
/, I, x, y, w, h, Code;INDICATORCODES
/, Y, Back Slider file path
Y01,"\volume_slider\volume_*.jpg"
/, S, x, y, w, h, x1, y1, w1, h1, O, Style, Pointer file path, h2, Code;SLIDERCODES, Tooltip

END

This will give you a basic skin with a close button and also track names etc.

Then, add a button to your main 'menu.skin' and have the 'command' field labelled as:

"LOAD;obd.skin;DashCommand;C:\Program Files\DashCommand\dashcommand.exe;!wxWindowClassNR "

Obvioulsy, the 'C:\Program Files\DashCommand\dashcommand.exe' needs to be where the where YOUR DashCommand exe is stored.

I haven't tried it in the car yet, but see no reason why it won't work.

FR/4wd gauge

Hello Tissy,

Is that gauge for FR vs 4wd torque active? Just curious if it can differentiate between individual wheels and not just Front vs. 4WD. I have AWD and would definitely be interested in setting this for my carPc.

Thanks,

Seconded. I have AWD, and power shifts front to back. Also, can the Boost gauge display PSI ?

dmistry - Hopefully the above code will be of assistance to the skin creator.

mpman & custommx3 - Sorry for the confusion guys, the OBD gauge is an example as provided by PalmerPerformance for DashCommand. The purpose of this post was to show that DashCommand can be integrated. Next stage is to create a DashCommand gauge skin for my purposes.
