Getting rid of my gauges

I can't seem to find an answer for this, so I am going to post it here. Is there a way in my 93 wrangler to have my gauges(gas/4wd/volt/oil, etc) all show up on my carputer so I can get rid of the gauges... Here is a pic of the gauges I am trying to replace.

Not a good idea mate. Imagine this, windows crashes......wtf are you gonna do? lol It is windows, it DOES crash and quite often too!

If windows crashes I Just reboot :-) truth is I would probably want to keep both for a while...

This is a myth. If you have properly setup hardware, and take care when setting up the system, and which patches you apply, Windows (as is linux) is rock-solid. I had to go ape**** with worldwide benchmark record-chasing to crash my systems, and those crashes were induced by clocking the daylights out of my system.

I find windows to be utterly stable and reliable - nope, I am not a windows zealot, I use Mac OS X, and Linux too....

To come back to the original question: It would be best if you can use something akin to the new Via Pico atx, or Commell LS-372 3.5" systems, and use Windows CE platform builder to rolout out an OS, which will be very quick on startup, you will be limited with obd-II applications on CE though.

You could use Win XP Embedded, the route I am taking, and strip out everything except what is necessary to display OBD-II data......

i rarely have windows crash on me. usually i just run too many things and it slows down and freezes..

which like said above if your smart, and dont have that many things running off of the gauge-puter (as it were) then you'd probably be fine

the only problem is what IF something goes wrong :T, mind you your car won't shut down or anything, but yeah, it wouldn't be fun

Guys, we use Embedded XP nodes to control very expensive processes in industrial control systems, it is widely used, and if properly configured, it should not crash.

Of course anything can and will go wrong at some point in time - but, what will you do if your ecu crash/kills itself.....same thing, you will have a problem.

Properly designed, and configured systems such as these are very reliable.

As it's a '93 model, I doubt OBD will be an option.

YOu might like to look into the Fusion Brain which was developed by guys here on this forum.

At the moment your gauge cluster is reading the voltages/pulses from the various componenets in your car (speed/RPM etc) and displaying them via yo=ur gauges. The Fusion Brain simply reads these electrical signals and converts them them into a signal yorur computer can understand which you can then use for your virtual displays. . It's super nifty and really cheap and looks like it would do the trick for your setup.

Now that is exactly what I was looking for - I have a bit more research to do, but that might do it for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
