Hey I have a elm327 box. I need to cycle the ABS on my ford. I don't have $1000+ dollars to shell out for a ford scan tool or a autoenginuity setup. Anyone have a idea on how i can do this?

This was brought up before. There is no way for the standard software to access the enhanced PID's so you can cycle through. If we knew what those enhanced PIDs where, then I guess it would be possible.

I remember some one was saying that they needed to flush the brake fluid or it was a simple brake job and they had to cycle the system.

I can't believe Ford would have a system like that. Can't even do your brakes on your driveway anymore.

all cars with abs need there abs pumps cycled every time u say do a fluid change or say when the system has a complete bleed out. (ie: line blows out and the reservoir is empty). what happens is theres either old break fluid in the reserve reservoir in the abs unit or theres air in the abs unit. I've seen it happen before. I used to take my old car out to the dirt road and go a good clip, than slam on the breaks. by doing that it would make the abs cycle. I've always noticed that the pedal would go sloppy after that. After i get it back home I'd bleed it out again and sure as **** theres air bubbles. Also I'd have to top off the fluid reservoir on the Master cylinder.

Can you find out for sure? I can do some traces on either a Bosch 5.3 with ABS/TCM, or a Bosch 8.0 unit with ABS/TCM/DSC. I also have a benchtop Bosch 8.0 that's ABS/TCM only but have yet to obtain a harness for it for testing.

OK, I've sniffed the messages from a Bosch 8.0 Module on a 2004 Australian Ford. This module has ABS, Traction Control and Stability Control all activated, but not Hill Descent. (Psst, someone from Bosch, help me figure out how to turn this on would ya....!)

The Bosch uses ECU state 87 to allow the activation of a Mode $31 Diagnostic Routine 71. The first byte provided in a 2-byte field determines which wheel the system opens up for fluid (I think), and the 2nd byte determines whether to activate the ABS pump.

It seems likely to me that there might be lots of other options in this 2-byte field.

I also know that Diagnostic Routine 74 gives me access to the steering angle calibration. I wonder how many more useable routines there are? It sure would be nice to know what ALL the Bosch diagnostic routines do.

I plan to run the same test on a Bosch 5.3 Module (Where diagnostics use ISO9141 rather than CAN) and see if the messages are similar.
