Bought a ELM 327 and it doesnt work!!!
I bought a ELM 327 scanner and it does not connect to my truck currectly (PC wise). I can not get any information out of it. So I am calling for help. I know there is a guy on here that has a Jeep with a 4.7L V8. I think it is the exact same engine in my truck which is a Dodge Durango w/ a Magnum 4.7L V8. I cant even seem to find what type of system the truck uses on the internet. I do know that when I plug into the OBD2 port the power light comes on, but thats about it. I bought the scanner awhile back so I probably cant return it, so I would like to see if I can get it to work. It is similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160177737351. Some one please help :-(

According to that ebay page, it supports all protocols so it shouldn;t matter what vehicle you connect to (as long as it's OBD compliant). It seems as though it has a fixed baud rate of 38400. What software are you using. Do you have the baud set to 38400 in the software settings?

Have you set the proper COM port in the software?

Someone told me that my car uses SAE which is listed.... Honestly I do remember playing with the baud rate, but not sure if I tried 38400. The software I am using is Centrafuse. I guess I have alot of gear on my PC so when I installed the OBD2 scanner, it was set at port 17. The software that came with it, only goes up to port 5, Centrafuse goes up to 17, but it will connect then say error. I hope its as simple as it being the wrong baud rate.

I think I have, it installed on port 17, and I set the software (Centrafuse) to 17. The original software only went up to 5.

Have you tried it outside of Centrafuse with the provided software?

Do the following for me. Goto Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Ports and find the exact port that you are using. If you're not sure which one it is, disconnect the OBD-II reader from the usb port and then plug it back in to see which one dis-appears then re-appers. The comport will be listed in brackets next to the name of the device.
Now that you have determined exactly which port you are using, jump into Centrafuse, set the port number, set the baud rate to 38400, set the device to the elm327 and see how you go.
You should the lights on your OBD-II interface 'dance' around as it connects. It does take a few seconds to do so.

The Dodge is most likely ISO9141 or VPW but the link you provided does say that it supports those protocols, I would try what NiSlo recommended and also try connectibg using hyperterminal just to eliminate additional variables initially

I bought the same one, and it's being installed over the next week (along with everything else).
I'll hopefully be able to update you on if mine works, and specific settings I used.

Not yet, right now my car PC is in pieces (upgrading the power supply) and since the OPUS 320 is so large, I have to customize the case to install it. Tomorrow I will be putting it back together and the first thing Im doing is trying the scanner again.
