OBD II for Landcruiser diesel?

A mechanic tells me its no use using OBD II for our 2003 Landcruiser diesel 2HZ engine, as the diesel models (without turbo) relay no useful electronic info.
Has anybody connected to OBD II in a diesel landcruiser?

Diesels and OBDII

I can't speak for Land Cruiser, but Ford diesels use extended codes. The core OBDII is for basic information, but the engine has more sensors and switches than a standard gasoline engine, plus it is missing some emissions systems such as a catalist, O2 sensor, AIR pump, throtle plate, etc.
Your mechanic may be refering to the extended data. Visit http://www.autoenginuity.com/ to see if your vehicle can be 'talked to' with their software/hardware solution.
Good luck,
DNR

I'm surprised there are no Landcruiser drivers around here.
