No Data from 350z

Hi,

I have ELM327 adaptor and am having trouble getting any data from my 2003 350z. I've been able to connect using scantool.net software but for all the sensors I get N/A.

I then tried using a terminal connection to send the commands manually and the only protocol I could connect was the ISO 9141-2. The response I get from the 0100 command is 41 00 00 00 00 00 and all other commands return NO DATA.

Also my OBDII connector has pins 4,5,6,7,8,14 and 16. This means it should support the CAN protocol. But I couldn't get it to work.

I've tried my adaptor on a 2007 Honda CRV and it works first time.

Can anyone help!!!!!

The response to the 0100 command that you typed in indicates that the ECU does not support any sensors over OBD II.

Maybe it supports mode 6 & mode 9? try 0600 & 0900 to see what you get.

Thanks for the reply paul. I'll try that later today. so do you mean to try 0600 and 0900 when connected with the ISO 9141-2 protocol or to try the protocol numbers 6 & 9? I've tried the CAN protocols and they don't seem to have any data either.

EDIT: I just tried those commands this is what I got:

>0600
46 00 FF 00 00 00 00

>0900
49 00 01 00 00 00 00

Looks like your vehicle has limited OBD II capabilities... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs shows what the various modes mean

That's wierd... How can a 2003 350z not provide the minimum stats like engine rpm, speed, etc??? I know other people who have had no problems with this car but I think they were the US version. Maybe the Australian version (mine) is like this. Still hard to believe....

Anyone with a Aussie 350z tried this???

Ok if it's AU that might explain a lot....

I think in Australia OBD II was not mandated in cars till 2005, but someone else might be able to provide a more definitive date...

that seems strange because my 2001 200sx has full OBDII output from the ECU

I know this probably wont help much, but I have a generic ELM327 off eBay that I connected over the weekend and can get stats such as RPM, speed, coolant temp on my 2003 350z (UK) using Scantools, easyobd and Centrafuse. I dont know what specific protocol it was using but off the top of my head it was ISO something. I will make a note of it when I drive home from work to let you know. I cant see just because you are in Oz Nissan would strip out the OBD stuff from the CPU as it would cost more money to take it out than leave it!

Mine is an Oz version. It is a different car, but you think as Cameleon said, they shoudn't have take it out. I'll see if I can get in touch with a mate of mine that works in the Nissan service dept. and find out what protocol they run in the 350z's

Yeah I find it hard to believe that they would do that for just this specific car aswell. All I need is for someone else with a Oz 2003 350z to confirm or deny that they got OBDII working...

How hard would it be to update the ECU? Is is it just a chip? It would probably be very expensive....

If you were looking at changing the ECU, better off getting an aftermarket one. I don't think updating the ECU (if it is possible) will give you the data output you want.

hey meddler, were you able to find out what nissan oz uses for OBD with the 350z? They must use something for diagnosis.
