Do any of the OBDII readers read the OBD subcodes

I had my CEL light come on so i took it to the dealer it was a bad 02 sensor comming up after running it on thier computer at the dealer they pulled 3 other codes that seemed to be from a subsystem , my guess is toyota/scion specific but are there readers on the market that can read these codes too or do only the ripoff artists at the dealers have access to these codes :-/
it was legit as far as the new codes i saw the printout of the diagnostics i just want to get a scantool capable of the most if i can

That's weird. Not sure of what you mean by "sub codes". The way I see it: Our generic readers will read all OBD related codes and additionally "manufacturer specific" codes.
Most "P0xxx" codes are OBDII generic, and our scan tools will read and show what they mean, for example: P0171 Fuel Mixture Lean.
However, our scan tools will also read "P1xxx" (note the "1"), but our scan tool will not explain what they mean, or will state "manufacturer specific code".
Regardless, "our" scan tools should read ALL codes in a PCM (ECU).
I know Toyota's...there is no such thing as a "sub system". Why your scan would not read the other codes...don't know.
What codes are (where) they?

I just realized. You (they) might be talking about "trip failures".
In most cases a code requires 2 trip failures to set.
In your case it is possible the additional codes where trip failures which means they had one trip failure (each) and had not yet "matured", or had not yet ran through 2 failed trips...which sets the "hard" code.

No, most scanners (except dealers' or an expensive SnapOn scan tool) will not read trip failures.
