-ELM327 ver 1.2a
-Mitsubishi Lancer 1999 Manual Engine CK1A
-ProScan ver 5.4

I bought ELM327 ver 1.2a like this

I connect ELM327 to my car and laptop then run ProScan. The LED blinking but then it give error.
My original RS232-J1932 cable pinout is pin2-pin5. I changed to pin2-pin4.
Before or after I changed the pinout, it will give same error message.
I haven't try to test my ELM with newer Mitsubishi or Lancer, but when I bring my Lancer for MUT test in Mitsubishi agent, the MUT device show everything, that mean my ECU is still fine.

Looks like your vehicle is not OBD II compliant. Nothing you can do about it other than get a new car or return the scantool :-)

Paul, I didn't see anything in the OP's post to indicate that his car is not OBDII compliant. He bought the cheap box off eBay, the chip is obviously not an ELM327. A 1999 model year car sold in the US, must be OBD-II compliant by law.

I agree with your suggestion that the OP should return the scan tool, and I would also suggest leaving negative feedback, and getting a real scan tool -- like this one, for example:

Good one :-) and I did not see anywhere that the OP stated that the CAR is US based, but nevertheless if the scantool.net tool has any chance of working, I will say that the OBDPro will work on that car for less money and with the money saved the OP can sit back and enjoy a nice dinner

I guess before we get too anxious to sell the OP anything we should confirm that the car is indeed a US car this will also help ensure we uphold our quality customer service metric

What you are trying to do is sell a tool to someone whose vehicle might not even be OBD II compliant, I would suggest you ease off on the sell job until the OP actually responds back with whether his/her vehicle is US based or not.

With your supposedly better customer support would'nt you want to do that?

STNFinder helps the user quickly identify which COM port the scan tool is connected to, since with USB and Bluetooth it's impossible to predict what COM port number the tool would install on. Paul is well aware of this problem. From his FAQ:

My car is Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi Asian version.
Its work with Mitsubishi MUT, maybe I should test with newer Lancer
