ELM327 ver 1.2a didn't connect Lancer 1999 CK1A

Hi,

INFO:
-ELM327 ver 1.2a
-Mitsubishi Lancer 1999 Manual Engine CK1A
-ProScan ver 5.4

I bought ELM327 ver 1.2a like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Auto...=p4506.c0.m245

I connect ELM327 to my car and laptop then run ProScan. The LED blinking but then it give error.
My original RS232-J1932 cable pinout is pin2-pin5. I changed to pin2-pin4.
Before or after I changed the pinout, it will give same error message.
I haven't try to test my ELM with newer Mitsubishi or Lancer, but when I bring my Lancer for MUT test in Mitsubishi agent, the MUT device show everything, that mean my ECU is still fine.

From the log below how I verify which one is wrong

thanks

Here is my ProScan log:

Looks like your vehicle is not OBD II compliant. Nothing you can do about it other than get a new car or return the scantool :-)

Paul, I didn't see anything in the OP's post to indicate that his car is not OBDII compliant. He bought the cheap box off eBay, the chip is obviously not an ELM327. A 1999 model year car sold in the US, must be OBD-II compliant by law.

I agree with your suggestion that the OP should return the scan tool, and I would also suggest leaving negative feedback, and getting a real scan tool -- like this one, for example:

Best regards,

PS But really, I am sure we can get you talking to your vehicle in no time. Give us a call.

Vitaliy,

Good one :-) and I did not see anywhere that the OP stated that the CAR is US based, but nevertheless if the scantool.net tool has any chance of working, I will say that the OBDPro will work on that car for less money and with the money saved the OP can sit back and enjoy a nice dinner

I guess before we get too anxious to sell the OP anything we should confirm that the car is indeed a US car this will also help ensure we uphold our quality customer service metric

Thanks
Paul

Paul, you said yourself that competition is good for the consumer, no?

I'm just saying that you get more for your money with ElmScan 5. It's a better tool, with second-to-none support and a 3-year warranty.

What you are trying to do is sell a tool to someone whose vehicle might not even be OBD II compliant, I would suggest you ease off on the sell job until the OP actually responds back with whether his/her vehicle is US based or not.

With your supposedly better customer support would'nt you want to do that?

Agreed, my bad.

I guess "supposedly" depends on your definition of "better"

We have:
  • A toll-free number
  • A multi-line phone system
  • Online support system with a knowledgebase
  • Four full-time CS representatives, plus engineering staff
  • Same day shipping
  • No-hassle 90-day return policy
  • Full 3 year warranty

We also have STNFinder and STNTerm utilities that run right off the CD. They allow users to quickly diagnose connection problems. Occasionally, we also use GoToMeeting to help customers (great software btw, cut down our support times significantly).

-- But wait, there's more!

Orders received before 2 pm, ship on the same day. And we charge actual shipping -- normally it comes out to around $6 for USPS Priority Mail (IIRC, you charged us $16 to ship your tool via UPS Ground).

Can you top that?

Best regards,

Vitaliy

I guess my point was that great customer service depends on identifying the key issue without wasting the customers time, since you already agreed to that I rest my case

UPS vs USPS apples vs oranges... You could have gone for USPS, BTW even with the shipping we got you beat on pricing no?

You know the OBDPro seems to be working so well that we do not even need to ship debug tools on the CD!

I must be having too much fun to keep this going I suppose

Now whose ramblings sounds like he's on Court TV?

UPS Ground for a tool that weighs several ounces doesn't cost $16. AFAIK, we selected the least expensive shipping option available. How much would you charge to ship via USPS Priority?

No, as I mentioned before, we price match your tools. And since we don't charge excessive handling fees, I'd say we got you beat. Viva la competicion!

Don't be silly, Paul.

STNFinder helps the user quickly identify which COM port the scan tool is connected to, since with USB and Bluetooth it's impossible to predict what COM port number the tool would install on. Paul is well aware of this problem. From his FAQ:

http://www.obdpros.com/faq.php

Quote:
Confirm that your OBDII software is configured to connect to the correct COM port or virtual com port if using the USB scantool. Most OBD II software packages default to COM1. Check to make sure that the scantool is indeed connected to the correct COM port . You can also verify the communications using the hyperterminal application in windows. See testing communications link using hyperterminal.

STNTerm was developed as a replacement for HyperTerminal, and is much easier to use.

I think you're sorry you picked a fight you cannot win. The sad part is that your responses are becoming increasingly nasty. I really hoped we could keep the exchange civil and constructive.

Yeah that's what I figured I think a newer model car should work with the interface you have

Thanks
