Power off OBDLink with Fusion Brain

All,

I am thinking of trying this out and wanted to know if anyone one had tried it.

I have the OBDLink from scantool but it draws constant power. I was thinking of buying another (connection cable and cutting it up. Adding one of the fusion brain relays to it and having it turn on when I load centrafuse. I want to be able to leave it plugged in without draining my battery.

I will need to order in a fusion brain but I did not want to just do that without much purpose.

Any thoughts?

It should run off your PSU just fine.

Just curious how much of a power draw are you measuring?

I know with my obd reader (knockoff band) theres only 1Leds worth of power draw when the computer shuts off. Vehicle power powers the chip but the standby pin is tied to usb power.

I have one of those little silver aluminum box knockoff ones. Just plugged into the car it uses 50mA and gets quite warm. Pin 16 on the OBD-II connector or pin 9 on the DB9 (check and make sure). Snip it and run a new wire from the DB9 side to anything. ACC, IGN, PSU output.

You can use a standard 12V automotive relay for this, you dont need to buy a fusion brain.
With my method the scantool would power up when you turn on the ignition. Makes the design simpler to do.

I cant think of any reason at the moment why you would only want the scantool to power up once centrafuse was loaded.

My idea however would solve the battery drain problem and save a fair bit of money.

Ref to the following link where i posted info for someone else with this type of problem : http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...y.html#1355527

Hope this help, if anyone has any questions im happy to help where i can

Regards mike
