VW Can-bus interfaces?

Ok, so I swear I've searched and come up with nothing....

I would like to see if there are any projects working on plugins for either centrafuse or RR or any other software that can interface with can-bus. I'm not looking to pull engine codes or get live data (would be nice but not necessary). More importantly I'd like to be able to gain access to the MFD and steering wheel buttons. I know that BMW i-bus has been thoroughly hacked but has anyone made any progress for can-bus cars?

Any info would be GREATLY appreciated.

there is an adapter from connects2 that gives you the steering wheel conversion to resistance. It is only sold in EU but the company ships anywhere. I am using it right now for reverse sense power and ground and speaker input for the whole car. I have not worked out the steering wheel controls yet because i am trying to figure out which USB adapter is the way to go. Something that will read codes you will need vagcom for that.

2009 Tiguan. I believe that all CAN-bus in VW is the same. somewhere around 02 on is the time from IIRC. if you go to the site you can do a search based your make model and year.

it is hard to see in the little wiring bunch but you can see the black adapter for the canbus, the plug for the steering wheel control, and the plug that goes into the car. sorry i dont have anything better.

Well that solves the button problem, but not the MFD issue. It weird that this hasn't been embraced by the community like the i-bus has. Thanks for the site tho.

not sure about your particular model but for instance the Routon it is a Chrysler Town and Country re badged with some sheet metal changes. I would see if the CAN bus protocol is the same as Chrysler's which I would think so since VW has to be able to read the onboard computer of the Chrysler product. This is just a thought and might open up some more possibilities for you.

They metal of the Routon is the same but if you look under the hood i believe everything else is VW.

What are you trying to do with the MFD?

sorry to disappoint the VW fans but no its all Chrysler right down to the engine, trans and computer systems... Sheet metal, interior and some of the suspension is VW thats about it. In fact in a bet a VW fan went to the dealership popped the hood and jaw dropped when he saw the Chrysler stickers on everything under the hood :-)

Its not a bad thing though I loved my 08 T&C
