dopehead, would you be able to make those gauges needles move depending on two inputs? mph & rpm? I am getting an OBD unit very very soon so, if you could make those move depending on inputs, I can try to make something.

Well, maybe i didn't make that clear enough.....my driving force in making software for cars stuff is that i need it myself. My car not being obd compliant really makes it tough for me to get exited about programming some software i can't even test nor use.

When you find the source let me know and I will try to make something from it. Im getting my OBD-II reader very soon.
Will your source work with all OBD readers or just the one that you programmed it with?

After reading all these posts.. its seems like alot of peeps want to help, but to be honest nothings being done.. At the start someone has done a VB backend and just needs someone to help him with graphics.. further on someone mentions how good they are with flash but needs someone to do the coding.. I aint no good at programming, nor graphics. but will assist anyway I can.. Testing etc.. infact I might even get VB out and have a go myself.. surely it cant be that hard :-) I'm away on hols for 10 days from tomorrow, but will buy a VB book and read whilst i'm away. Wonders if that would look too geekish sitting on the beach reading a nurd book.. lol anyway pull your fingers out !

maybe the solution
uh, this has to be paid for i think, but a demo is available. this is the download page, but you can click on the "costumizable in car dash" to read about skining the program.
the download page= http://www.ecutek.com/downloads/
i hope this is what you guys are looking for. i am not sure how much the full version cost, but there is a demo version there.
i cant test it, since i don't have a obdii hookup yet.
let me know if it works.

Last time i checked that DeltaDash software used the CAN protocal for fast updates and had some subaru specific stuff. But if you've got a WRX or STi they've got some awesome stuff!

gauge com dll
have recently started work on a car pc and am writing the software in vb.net,
I have started working on some gauges/dials for the OBD2 display.. I am making a com vb.net dll that should be quite flexible if anyone wants a dial control.. it's still in development but its quite functional already..
just add it to your projects control toolbox then you can draw a new dial on your form; initially it will appear as just a black box, there are a bunch of parameters to change and you can achieve many different looks (including having a background image, having an inner and outer dial (ie mph/kph), setting the start and end angles of the dial, the speed at which the needle can move and so on.. afraid there is no documentation as it is really just for my own benefit, but play around with the different settings some!
