I'm interested! But my car is OBDII-CAN interface. I tried to source a chip that will support the CAN interface, but no luck so far. Maybe you stumbled on one somewhere? Because if so, i would be all over it

There is one difference between boards out there and that is, some have buffers built in on the interface, so if 'anything' goes wrong, it won't destroy the cars computer.
Just something to think about ...

There are a couple of open source OBD-II software projects available on sourceforge.com. Most of these run on a PC. There are also some inexpensive Palm OS based OBD-II tools available at obd-technologies.com

Grayscale, I just found out my car has missed OBDII inclusion by 2 months ! Very annoying, but this also means my scan tool is defunct.
I cannot test it, and the build quality isn't great, but it communicates with PC fine so i'm 90% sure it will work with a car. I'm open to offers

PS. Assuming I could test the design I could build a scantool for something on the lines of £30-40 ( making the PCB is pretty labour intensive )

Lol, motoko, that is true...
How much is that in USD? I wasn't sure if that symbol means EUR or what, I'm sorry. And you would definately have to test it first . Btw my car uses PWM...

If you thinks its easy then make me 1,000 PCB and ill pay you £1 for each one.
I want each one of them to be hand made...oh and dont forget the solder mask and the silkscreen printing for pro looking product

LOL no
It is quite amazing how cheap a PCB can be made when mass produced.
Making PCB at home is fun but not really that easy or cheap. You can either draw the artwork manually YUK...or print them on the transparencies. Exposing the board to UV light takes about 10-15mins. Etching the boad take 15-30mins. Cutting and drilling the board take another 30mins. Making a double sided board at home is of course a different story.
Anyway for those who wanna make complicated PCB artwork from a print out heres what you will need, all can be bought from Maplin :
Small UV Exposure Unit £109.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...301&Products=3
Presensitised Board £0.99 - £9.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...33&Products=12
Universal PCB Developer £7.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...085&Products=1
Etching Fluid £7.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...102&Products=1
A drill with 0.6mm for IC, 0.8mm for general components and 1.0-1.2mm drill bits for other larger legged components...preferably drill the board on a drillstand. You also need hacksaw, sandpaper, tray, cleaning stuff and some other bits to finish off the PCB.
As you can see theres alot of things involved in making a PCB at home. Not exactly profitable if one is to sell a kit.
