any interest for a cheap obd2 reader?

i just made my own obd2 reader, it uses the elm chip it is designed for iso format euros, imports. If enough people are interested i will have some nice pcb boards made up for these. They should be about 2"x1" if everything fits right, able to plug directly into the back of the computer also. Im thinking they will cost about $40-50 for a completed reader. obd2 cable will be about $17. if people are interested let me know and ill get things rolling. I will also be designing the pwm and vpm for domestics also.

do they have all of the features of a normal obd2 reader? i don't know a whole lot about obd2 just yet (havent read a whole lot on the obd section), but if they are then im interested cause i dont want to spend $200 or whatever it is for a normal one.

yeah I'm interested, also would be prepared to be the sole uk import person for these and the send em to everyone else here, if you marked em for $10 value then no import tax would be charged :-)

I would just like to see what software it works with and a comparison of how it stacks
up to the other OBDII products out there.

I'm also interested to see what type of software we're working with here.

I've been looking for a while now for someone with the VB code to take the OBD data into a usable format, but everyone I've talked to either has an incomplete program, or charges lots of $ for it. Basically I want to take their program and develop a flash front end for it. If anyone has anything along these lines, let me know. I'd be happy to share the front end when I get it done.

I've looked into ELM products a while back, and unless they've improved them, the product is extremely limited, and IMHO its cheaper to build one of these considering they don't use any specialized parts, and many people here will most likely have everything needed.

In addition ISO standard does not really require ELM interface, there is a project on sourceforge.net that has software solution. Reason for that is that ISO interface can be understood by RS232 without major modifications to the electrical part.

Heres a full OBD2 project from Elektuur/Elektor magazine :

Rename all the 3 files back to RAR and unpack...I cant post more than 200KB.

Use the document for reference or whatever...just dont blame me when things goes wrong.

EDIT : Look like some didnt get what I meant by rename back to RAR...What I meant is remove all the .ZIP extension so you are left with .RAR extension. Use the software WINRAR to unpack all 3 files. There should be a PDF file in there

the board is the same as ricky327 posted, i just made mine with a 9 pin instead of a 25 pin serial port, i am also going to be adding a turn on relay so that the unit is only powered on when the computer or car is on. There is alot of software out there, www.scantool.net is one. I am also making my own software for the interface that will be strictly a virtual dashboard. far as capabilities, this will read all the suported information that your car can provide to it, check engine codes, and clear them. I might do a usb one also.
