I have looked under my steering column and i have found a black connecter in the same shape with the following pinouts:
(Yellow indicates there is a pin there)



Now all I have to know what protocol it uses. For ISO the connector must have pins 4, 5, 7, and 16. Pin 15 may or may not be present. Is this correct?
If it makes any difference the car is an Australian 2001 Toyota Avalon Vxi.

Most certainly is OBDII - speaking with a Ford dealership those palm pilot/WinCE based OBDII plug in units do work. As to the pin outs? nfi sorry.

ok cool, ill have to search around and see if anyone has the pinouts and interface chip working, and actually doing something good on the PC, that someone has written code for (guess its early days yet)

The pinouts should be the same as the US Mustang - however the EEC version is different which means some of the factory specific fault codes could be different.

only american cars have to have obd.. it is ocming to australia soon

most new toyotas have the plug under the coloum but the pin outs will be all mixed up to what there ment to be..

a few holdens will have it as there exported to america i.e the manaro (pontiac gto)

My 2003 Mitsubishi TJII Magna was sold in US as the Mitsubishi Diamante... so im hoping its got OBD too... anyone know for sure if its active?

All '96 & up U.S. passenger vehicles have this OBDII, it is a fed.gov. standard.
I use my Palm to get vehicle info from this connector.
when using generic software (like I do) you only get OBDII info. (like readable trouble codes) Some DTC's my say "Manufacturer Specific" which'll only show the DTC #. Others DTC's that are under the Fed. guidelines will state what the Trouble code means, like "O2 Sensor out of range".
You also get basic info. like RPM, Coolant Temp, MAF Meter, Throttle Position, etc.
You would have to buy a cable and some kind of translator box.The software I use (for my Palm) also has a desktop version but I haven't tried it.
