Is there an ODB-II/software combo that can give you real time gas mileage?

If not, is it a hardware limitation?

You could log data and then tell your gas mileage. Im not sure if OBD-II can get the current milage of the car or not, but it can get the fuel trim levels. Im guessing you would have to homebrew your software to get it to do this, I don't know of any software that does this, but some one else might. I was interested in calculating my gas mileage properly, If i ever get an obd-II interface I will make an app for it.

The limitation is not hardware or software - it all depends on whether the car's ECU supplies the right codes to compute it. Some manufacturers provide codes for this and some don't.

Not really that good at OBD-II myself, but I believe (some one correct me if im wrong) that fuel trim level is the amount of fuel left in the vehicle.. So your gauge that tells you how much fuel is in your car is your fuel trim level.

in theory you could add up the fuel trim level to see how much gas your useing but its hard and odbII doesnt give you enogh granularity to see it properly
