Finally got my DFI setup! hehehehehehe

Well, i dont have the CarPC setup going in a vehicle yet, but I just got my DFI setup for my '88 Escort GT I had to go to this because of my unusual combination. The stock EEC wont correct for this many changes, and well, its not OBD2, so i cant really monitor what was going on. Since my motor is destroked, bored, has flat top low compression pistons, late model roller cam head, larger injectors and a turbo, it is fairly important that they all work together. Now I am rethinking putting my carpc in this instead of my Stang, i will be needing a laptop otherwise. Might as well, huh! Anyway, here is a screenshot of the digital dash that goes with it.

Just FYI...the Accel Gen VII like this goes for about $1600-$2200 depending on the options...like mine has a 3 bar map sensor for the turbo, and will have a wideband o2 as well, another $900 option. They can only be purchased where they are being installed, but since I work there...hehehe. Still not cheap, but NICE!

In all reality I would have probably been better off with the newer BP turbo Mazda based motor, but I have always liked the old CVH motors, as well as the older boxier looking Escorts and I got very lucky and found all the rare EXP turbo manifold and turbo shell parts to make it work. The block is a '88 and the roller cam head and all the rest of the parts are from a '94 1.9L (non-H.O.). We'll see within the next couple weeks if it as all worthwhile!

Not really sure who Accel uses...could very well be. If so, maybe I can find some peoples to tweak my setup. For example, I have a "pro" key...which is a male to female extension that plugs into the printer port to "unlock" the program. They also have a master key, which unlocks much more function. I am sure it could probably be software unlocked but I dont know anyone that knows the language this is programmed in to begin with. Hmmmm!

Well, the DFI is up and running on my Turbo Escort I am having a friend fab up a mount for the Lilliput to go above the rear view mirror (these Escorts had a clock up there and plenty of room) and it should be mounted in a week or so.

If you ever get a chance to play around with DFI...you will be amazed at what can be done. I can adjust EVERYTHING about the engine management...from simple stuff like when the fan comes on and off, to complex things like cold start enrichening and 3 stages of nitrous management.

Woohoo - that engine looks very familiar!

My Fiesta RS Turbo is running an American Tall block (1900) CVH engine from the American Escort - I think that may well be the one that's in your car?

Only trouble is mine is using the Weber Marelli management from a Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 and as such is a real pig to interface with.

I have someone who's making a microcontroller box for it at the moment so that data packets can be sent to the PC, but that's a long term goal!

Cheers,

Andy

What does the American Escort look like?

And is it rear wheel drive as the European Escort's (mk3 onwards) were all fwd?

Cheers,

Andy

cool deal! DFI rules. I'm throwing out all my carburetors. Do any of you youngsters know what a carburetor is? It's about 1/2 way up the scale between DFI and a toilet.

Anyway, I have a 2002 firebird drag car with a worked LS1 sitting in my garage. I have to completely rewire the car, while I'm at it, I'm tossing the stock ECM and installing a Gen VII. Pretty much for the same reasons you did. The car's owner saw my carputer and engine swap and he pretty much begged me to do his car. Gonna make some $$$ on this one!

Its a front wheel drive...pretty much took over for the Fiesta (of which I have had 3, all '77-80's) when it was discontinued over here. I wished and wished that they would import the Cossie....never has happened. There are a few in my state but not street legal. Cant get 'em licensed.

anyway, here is my '88 Escort GT...
