ECU to Car PC problem.

After market ECU not an OBD-II

Before I installed the PC, I used a lappy running windows 3.11 to communicate to the ECU. One can change the fuel maps while offline or online.

Now when I installed the PC running XP, the same programme ran as normal in offline mode, but doesn't run in online mode (which is when the car is running, and you get live engine data)

The serial cable is 100% as it works on the lappy.
The com1 (serial port) umm well windows XP SAYS it is working.

Question, is there further settings for com1 that I have missed. The EFI software runs in DOS, and as I said above, works ok with XP (I can even make new fuel maps but can't upload then to the ECU)

Did you try changing the compatibility settings for the program? Right click the .exe and go to compatibility.

Would that work for DOS based software?

I did try the compatibility settings when after adding a video card I had no display. It turned out that the onboard video was causing that problem. A simple change in the BIOS fixed that, I can see and use the software, just can't communicate with the ECU.

However I will try the compatibility again and post results.

Thanks.

its most likely a com port conflict
check that the xp settings for this port are correct in terms of baud rate etc, and that your app is using a com port that windows has listed as free and avail.

I dont think its more complex than that
