PLS Recommend a Scantool for Nissan 200SX (S14a)
Can anyone recommend a OBD scantool and software to connect my 2000 Nissan 200SX (S14a), Engine Code: SR20DET to my CarPC. I use FP and CF on the CarPC.
I have 'd & 'd but there is so many results coming back and I know nothing of OBD & OBDII. I heard that UK Nissans have a slightly different OBD protocol than US Nissans, would this affect the equipment needed?
Any help or advice is appreciated.
John

Should be ISO. So get one that can do ISO.

Go to Scantool.net ( www.scantool.net) and check out their solution. They also have free downloadable software for diagnosing via OBD-II. They have a good list of OBD-II interface types as well (which I've helped update).
My book, "Geek My Ride", comes out in April and will have a good list of OBD-II interface types as well as an extensive resource directory.
Check it out: http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyT...764578766.html

This is what I found out...
Its most definately not ISO.
Is Nissan's own proprietry system called Consult... It has an odd ball DDL connector that you can't buy plugs for, and doesn't use the OBDII standards but its own.
There is software available for this interface but its about £260 which is a bit steep really IMO. There are free versions but these have limited functionallity.

Just got my Consult Interface.
The 1999 Car & the 2000 Car I wrote off don't have OBDII but Nissan Consult.
The adapter came from http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/consult_if.htm
Not had chance to try it yet...

hey cool another S14 owner... how did that interface work out for ya? I'm thinking about buying one myself (altho I'm not the fortunate owner of a SR20DET - I do plan to go turbo with a KA24DE-T eventually)
I'm also curious as to your screen install... here is mine:
no custom bezel, just cut the insides of the stock bezel a bit and used the oem under radio cubby to make a custom mounting bracket for the screen. - I still gotta get rid of the white writing on the screen
edit - nvm on the screen, I just found this - http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=61280

Hello fellow SX'er, Is yours an S14 or an S14a? The 'A' has a different more aggressive front end
Your screen does look quite tidy, but I was put off mounting it there cause I need to retain the HU for radio and amplification, and there was a lot of glare. Mounted high it mainly reflects off the roof!
most of the info on my screen install is here

Why not keep the SR20DET and tune it instead of using the KA...?
a FMIC, 555cc Injectors, Mechanical Boost Controller, ECU Chip, Induction and 3" turbo back exhaust will see 300bhp+. Plus the SR is smaller and weighs less
Norris designs do a crate SR engine pushing over 600bhp.
lots of tuning info (and loads of other stuff) available on http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/index.php?

The USDM S14 comes with a KA24DE, not an SR20 If I had an SR20 stock I'd never let go of it... I have a Infiniti G20 (Nissan Primera) as well.. and the SR20 in that is awesome. My KA is low milage and in good shape so I think I'm gonna take that route.
I have a zenki S14, I like the rounded front end

Which software are you using with the Consult interface ?? Tom's Datascan ??
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=54420
He will be releasing a new version soon apparently. There are a few other programs out there that work aswell. Calumsult is cool looking, also check out TECU. I haven't used the last two due to my laptop being stolen and my M10k Mobo being funked
