Excellent advise !!!!
On my 94' explorer, the same problem existed. At first engine code 186 came up, so I changed fwd HO2S. Problem still there. Then I purchased a set of tamper star sockets (with the hole in the middle) to remove my MAF sensor. I carefully cleaned the body with light scotch pad and electrical cleaner on the sensor. After a test drive, two more codes were found. 173, 177, and still 186. I erased the memory and tried again. IT WORKED!! NO more rough idle, ticking noises, or "check engine light". Thank you for saving me $70.00 for a refurbished MAF, now on to my never ending "ABS Light"!
