Bluetooth OBD2

There's a Bluetooth OBDII controller on the frontpage of carputers.org. It's not out yet, but it's coming soon.

Using a bluetooth dongle, you can read your car's ECU data using the device. At present, it's just ISO-9141 protocol, but more should be provided in the near future.

I just recently had my Autoenginuity scantool upgraded to blue tooth and I must say it was worth the extra money.

Also, why bother? Most of us on this board have fixed computers in our cars, why would we need to add the unreliabillity of wireless to something as simple as OBD-II?

That might be handy for the laptop crowd, but probably not for most of us. If you really want a bluetooth OBD-II adapter, just buy a serial one and hook a serial-bluetooth adapter to it. Voila!

Serial port to bluetooth

You could get the adapter, but after buying both the ODB-II and the Serial Port to bluetooth adapter you would be spending a bit more.

Here is the a link to the Serial Port to bluetooth adapter.

http://www.kanda.com/index.php3?cs=1&bc=direct&bw=%2Fbrowse.php3%3Fpart no%3DPARANI10

It runs $149.

www.kbmsystems.net
Or visit http://www.obdkey.com for the latest, smallest OBD Bluetooth and OBD USB devices.

I think that buying the 2 parts seperately would be cheaper, I've found a BT to Serial adapter for as little as $99, and that Kanda one is now $109, then a cheap scantool for another $113, would be cheaper than the 140GBP, or 250USD

See the Car-Pal web site:

The Website appears to be down, does anyone know if they are still in business?

It redirects to http://www.vitalengineering.co.uk (with a space before the v, which causes the error) so just go there...

Thanks for the reply. At the time of my original post, even http://www.vitalengineering.co.uk was down. It has since come back online but the Orders Link (http://www.vitalengineering.co.uk/orders.htm) is broken; I have sent several emails with no response.

Does anyone know of another source for the Car-Pal?
