OBDII RPM output?

I am looking for something that I can hook into the OBDII port and output a RPM signal to something like a Tach. Does anyone have an idea?

I you are looking for something to output directly to a tach, you could use the tach wire in your car (unless it doesn't have one, i think they all have to, don't they?). Or maybe you are looking to verify the existing tach vs. digital information?

To use OBDII you would have to have a device that would request the line of information for RPM, translate it, and they output it. Its going to come out of the OBDII port as a digital string, that would have to be converted to a screen, and then convert it back to a voltage level to use with the tach.

I don't know of any devices, but I think you would be better off with a hardware solution, not a computerized solution like this one. Unless you are looking for more info than that. Then any of the solutions posted here would work, depending on your car.

We want something that will come out of the OBDII port that will output an RPM signal. It will not be used for a tach but will need a tach signal to operate. A signal that would operate a Autometer Tach would work. A software solution is really what we are after, if we can make this work then I should be able to get an RPM signal from any OBDII vehicle. I have been searching the internet for a product that will do this but have not found any yet.

only thing that comes close is a tach adaptor but that's a hardware type solution.. what you're looking for i do not believe exists

There is a program called AutoTap, it's a little expensive, but it will show you tach, speedo, and many other things. Although your post (and the replies that follow) hint that you want to directly hook it up to a real Tach, that's way beyond me. But
