True, I wonder if all the tactrix cable does is the voltage level translation so the ECU can communicate with the PC or wether it has more smarts to it.
The reason being if all it does is voltage level translations there might be a way to get the ELM style OBD II units to play a dual role...

That would be handy, as mugurg has just got an ElmScan 5 and found out his MY99 is not OBD-II compliant (just SSM).....seems that his dealer gave him bum information!

if i can make it work... i am ready to make any test suggested, no matter if i destroy the great ELM. I don't particulary care so much, i just want to read the damn SSM...and if i burn the damn thing, i will buy another device and so on.

You will not be able to do anything with the K&L line as you car does not have them......!! (pins 7 & 15)
But as per the OpenPort description the pin 9 L line and pin 11 Vpp Line appear to be the SSM pins, but yesterday on VWRX we identified these as pins 12 & 13, which is the same as your connector, so now I am really confused....
Is SSM pin 12&13 as per pre 2001 cars or is it 9&11 as per the OpenPort description....

OK, I have had a think.
I believe on the tactrix cable:
Pin 7 is both ISO 9141-2 K Line and SSM/GST
Pin 15 is both ISO 9141-2 L Line (and SSM??)
Pin 9 is L Line (Subaru Specific....)
Pin 11 is Vpp (Flash voltage)
So we can assume that 12&13 are SSM on your connector. I would jumper across pins 7-12 & 15-13 on the Elmscan to the scoob connector. I assume this is simple tx/rx and if it does not work flip it around i.e. 7-13 & 15-12?
Mark

In fact you are only going to need the K line as this is TX/RX so pin 7 to either 12 or 13......
Do you need DTR/DSR line which is 15? Not sure?
I have been reading this, not quite the same but explains some of the SSM/OBD pins.. http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic....&highlight=ssm

Mark, those are signal lines. Even fliped should not do any harm. I will give it a shot with 7 going on 12 for a start, but in a few days, as i am going in a short holiday tomorrow at 6 AM.
DTR and ASR stands for Data Terminal Ready and Data Set Ready, so the communication should be done by waiting for DTR signal...? Some systems that require DSR typically also raise Data Terminal Ready (DTR) to indicate they are ready to go but are just waiting for the other "partner". At least i remember so...

sorry to drag up a maybe old thread, but is there a way to convert the km/h and other units to standard units instead of metric? This would be very handy
Other than that, looks great.
