if you are looking specifically for hardware vendors, Digimoto uses a company called Ozen Elektroniks ( http://www.ozenelektronik.com/), the company is based in turkey, but has some high quality options for the DIYer here. they offer some open source code samples as well.

i should also mention DrewTech ( http://www.drewtech.com/) with it's mongoose and also our up and coming OBDPros ( http://www.obdpros.com/). None of these manufacturers listed use the same hardware or chip set when building these interfaces.

I've been using the cable from this guy http://www.obd-2.com/ for the past 3 years. His software isn't so great so I use the programs over on http://openecu.org/ like ecuExplorer and ecuEdit. The cable works well with the Subaru Select Monitor (SSM) protocol for logging but not for flashing.

We are a German manufacturer for OBD2 interfaces and offer DIY kits for some of our models. This is made for people who still have fun dealing with electronics and who want to built the interface themselves. Our interfaces are not based on ELM processors. We use our own BIOS software based on ATMEL processors (ATtiny2313; ATmega8; AT90CAN128). The AGV4000 contains all protocols, a VAG.com mode and a CAN low-level mode (LAWICEL). A special software exists for the CAN low-level mode: "CANHacker". In the OBD2 mode the AGV processors also work with ELM based software, for example DIGIMOTO. With the help of the BIOS software there are many configuration possibilities (AGVsupertool). Every processor has a serial number which is interesting for software developers. Easy firmware updates are possible with the help of a bootloader.
The digital display is an enhancement of the 4000µC and has the same functions. It additionally supports an LCD display and a keyboard. With the help of those you can perform a car diagnostic without a PC.
AGV based interfaces are the bestselling interfaces in Europe in 2006 (>20,000 units). We export interfaces worldwide.

wow man, grats. that avg unit is one of the hottest looking interfaces i have seen to date. the ability to use the interface with or without software is genious, it is the first time i have seen something like this. i will spend some time studying the hardware further, great job. there are a lot of features that you are showing here that all hardware manufacturers should pay attention to.
