Yes the software needs to be capable of supporting the higher speeds. I know Digimoto allows user to configure the baudrate on the connection, so that would be a better choice in that regards, not sure if proscan supports all speeds or limits one to 9600 & 38400 (These are the only two speeds supported by the ELM327 chipset, whereas OBDPro supports all speeds 9600 - 128000)
Joel was going to add a way that would automatically configure the OBDPro for the higher speeds not sure if he has done that.
Regardless you should be able to connect at the higher speeds by first configuring the interface and then connecting at the higher speeds via the Digimoto configuration.
