Question bmw e46 owners obd2

Hi,

Have done a bit of research on obd2,on a bmw 3 series e46 (i have 320 diesel)

seems to be a mixed view on the 16/20 pin connection, and whether the interiour connector is actually live. Has anyone had any success using the obd2 on the inside of the car?

It will depend very largely on the age of your BMW - what age is it?

Some BMWs in europe before 2002 were obdii compliant but did not have the OBDII socket, in these cases BMW will tell you they are not compliant. Checking of pin 2 (sometimes labelled OBDII) or pin 17 (TXII or second K line) of the 20 pin DLC under the hood, they are only present if OBDII is supported.

From another thread.

Bear in mind registered date isn't build date. so you may be borderline.

Some of the earlier diesel BMW's are ISO, but unfortunately only some...

Do you know what ECU your BM uses? It will be a DDE, but which one?

thanks, may have a solution as this one seems to support all the major protocols, and if the interiour obd2 isnt live it wont matter, because this one offers a wireless connection...

anyone tried wireless obd2 before?

It still needs the OBDII protcol to be active in the engine management side.

I aslo think that unit still will only connect to the OBDII socket inside the car, not in the engine bay. The wireless just means you don't need to have the PC/Laptop in the car, just the scanner and bluetooth dongle.

The answer really is in finding out what engine management system you have.

Enforcer is completely right, the Bluetooth is to do with the connection between your computer and the tool, not the tool and the car.
