Ahh. That's much better.

The dll's that come with the MsgMon utility were changed, and now I can connect and see traffic. When advised that it might be a dll problem I was very keen to try it out.

The tool looks quite spiffy. I've been able to watch traffic on both ISO and CAN so far.

Playing with the tool so far has left me with a raft of questions to want to ask, but seeing as how this is a demonstrator for the SDK rather than a standalone tool, I'll take what I can get. How long does the timed demo licence last?

As a useable tool that's not yet available anywhere else, or as a subset feature of any other J2534 utility that I'm aware of, I'd be prepared to pay a small fee just to be a licensed user of this.

I'm glad to hear that the newer DLLs fixed the problem. The download now has these new DLLs incorporated.

As for licensing, I'm still working through exactly how the MsgMon utility will be licensed, but the license key contained in the IPSECOSMsgMon.zip download currently expires on 1 Oct 2007. Until then, the utility will run for 60 minutes at a stretch and can be restarted when it times out (not the most sensible scheme, but that's just how it works for now). If I don't work through a long term license scheme by 1 October, I will certainly repost the download with a new key that extends the "evaluation mode" another month or so.

As for any questions you might have about the tool, or which might arise from using it, feel free to ask either in this forum (perhaps on a new thread?) or in private messages. I'd be happy to answer what I can.

My overall goal for this utility is really just to stimulate "vehicle code discovery" activity in the community in order to enable people to write software (both for personal and commercial purposes) that cleverly and usefully interacts with vehicles. Perhaps this could move toward a sort of cooperative, shared repository of vehicle code information?

Anyway, thanks for the interest (and the persistence!).

Just to step back on topic before I desert to a new 'IPSECMsgMon' or Cardix thread....

I sniffed a full PCM reflash last night. Previously, using the ELM, any attempts to sniff would result in a buffer overload rendering it next to useless. I can sniff query/response stuff easy enough, and for this the ELM is quite useful. I saw for instance the security setup using Mode27 on the ELM during the reflash. But once it stepped into a bulk-transfer mode I was left wanting. Since all the ELM needs is Hyperterm (although I used SecureCRT which is a much nicer tool in my opinion), I was pretty much up and running on the ELM a day or so after I got it.

The Mongoose ISO/CAN is far superior in speed, but much harder to get going becuase it requires custom software and a bit of extra effort to make it happen. I also hit an issue in that the Mongoose doesn't yet support Winx64 OS's (XP64 or Vista64) so that hurt me. Up until recently PCMScan (and factory software) was all that I could use on it.

IPSECMsgMon has come along at just the right time to make a J2534 tool useful for me.
