The other day i was rummaging through my boxes of piled "extras" and came across a 7" lcd monitor (non pc) from power acoustik that only has a composite video in, i found that apple has a dvi to composite adapter that would take care of the video but my question is, has any one ever put a touch kit on a monitor like that??

Iv measured the screen and the touch kits i found on ebay were slightly larger then my screen, will the touch panel still work correctly with the case edges against it? Also has any one ever used one of those 30 or so dollar touch kits or are they not worth spending the money on i just want some confirmation also that they will work with my non intel mac mini, id really like to use this monitor i already have it fits perfectly in my dash bezel and of course im trying to keep costs down as much as reasonably possible.

Any help is appreciated guys, sorry for the ramble.
Thanks.

Hi there,

If I just install an in-car video deck from, say, BestBuy, could I somehow get the touchscreen output?

Why I ask: I could use a standard touch-screen dash system like this one and use the audio in, and video in, then just use my netbook. But I'd also need the touchscreen output for the interface.

Are there any dash systems that provide a touchscreen output or that are particularly hackable?

Here are 2 I'm looking at simply because they are available nearby:
JVC

I am thinking of undertaking an ambitious project: turning a PSP into a secondary media display/control for my car pc.
Attachment 57112

The goal is to take a broken PSP, and remove all the unneeded parts, such as battery, UMD, broken display, etc.

Then un-solder the buttons from their contacts on the board, and wire them up to a usb game controller to use the buttons on the front of the PSP for dedicated media control input.

Attachment 57113

The Logitech controller has six buttons, and four trigger buttons, along with a D-pad, and two analogs with buttons. The PSP has 11 buttons, a D-pad, and two triggers, and the single analog.
So there are enough buttons to go around. The only hang up I have, and I wont know until trying, is weather or not the analog stick will work hooked up to the Logitech controller.
Then i need to find a four inch vga screen, and put it in place of the PSP screen, unless someone knows of a way to convert the PSP screen to a VGA controller board.

The last step would be to fabricate this right into my dash.

Any suggestions on a screen?

Any insight on the analog joystick?

Thanks.

hello!
first off, i'm italian and i don't speak a good english so.. sorry for my english :yield::yield::yield:

i have a problem with my carpc:

i've installed a usb sd card reader in my car, connected at the carpc by a usb cable extension.
card reader has been intergated in the dashboard, near the monitor...

the carpc is composed by asrock motherboard, cpu intel e5200, 2 gb ram, S.O. windows xp (a light version)

the problem is that when i shoot down the carpc, when i restart it, card reader doesn't work cause windows xp detect it like a unknows device....
so i have to disconnect and reconnect the usb cable, and in this way the card reader is detected and works correctly....

but in a carpc i can't every time disconnect and reconnect the usb cable, cause the reader is hidden and in the dashboard i have just the slot to insert the sd card.... so i would like solve this problem....

i've tested the card reader in a notebook with windows vista, and here it works correctly and it's detected every time that i restart windows...

so, how can i resolve this problem? it could be a windows xp problem? a mother board problem? a drivers problem?

help me, please!!

I have been able to get it working fine but once the computer is restarted (hibernate) it appears the settings are not being stored on the JoyCon itself. According to the creator, Once you program using joycon explorer, the settings are store on the JoyCon and it shouldnt matter if it is unplugged or replugged. For some reason the settings are being reset.

Anyone have some pointers or information on this?
