Verizon based Blackberry phones work with bluetooth syncing?

I understand one of the fundamental issues of getting your cell phone to work with Freefone (or any other phone control software out there) is the networking technology of CDMA vs GSM. I know Verizon and Sprint use CDMA and At&t and T-Mobile use GSM. I also understand that GSM is the global standard while CDMA is mostly a US standard. Finally, I know that GSM phones are more successful in general than CDMA phones in working with your front end software for remote phone commands, such as Freefone.

I am consideirng switching to Verizon (I currently have Sprint) as their network coverage is the best in the US. Does anyone have any luck in getting complete phone control with any Blackberry phones provided by Verizon? That includes making phone calls with the dial pad on the computer screen, seeing phone calls coming in AND being able to answer them, getting phone book information, etc.

Also, if successful, do you use Bluetooth or USB tethering. And if bluetooth, what profile?

I've ruled out hardware: Running full Windows XP, Dell Dimension 3100, 3GHZ CPU, 2 GB RAM, current Symantec AV and Firewall. Adapter is Linksys WUSB54GS version 2. Adapter works on other computers with no problem. Two other computers are connected wirelessly to the router, two are on ethernet. This is NOT a hardware problem, everything has been double checked and works except on this computer. I've double and triple checked the security settings, network name, passphrase, etc. I sat down with the laptop and went through each step to mirror the settings that work on other systems. I'm certain it's an XP software issue.

I've tried both WZC and Linksys software. Using WZC, computer recognizes the adapter, driver install goes fine, and the setup for SSID and password is uneventful. After the setup, the system will not see any wireless networks although there are 4 available. Going back into the network properties, when I click on the Properties button, the window locks up, and I have to end task using Task Manager.

Using the Linksys software, the install goes fine, the computer recognizes the adapter, and the multiple networks show up. After plugging in the correct SSID and password and trying to connect, I get "Cannot Associate with Access Point".

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and hardware multiple times. I got the most current drivers from the Linksys site. I've tried disabling WZC in Services and running the Linksys software. I've tried the Linksys software with WZC enabled. I've disabled the Symantec firewall. Windows firewall is off. This computer networks fine when plugging directly into the router via ethernet.

Again, this is NOT a hardware issue. I generally know how to connect to a network. This adapter works on other computers, using both WZC and the Linksys software, and one of the other computers runs Linux (a dual boot system with LinuxICE and Ubuntu on it). I've pretty extensively Googled this, but haven't found any other instances of this problem, except one techie site that requires a subscription for the solution.

Before I get beat up for considering this system for an in-truck, it isn't my first choice. I've got an Optiplex SX260 which has a smaller board, but the DVD connection is a challenge, the hard drive connection will be messy, the power switch connection isn't the best and there's no PCI slots. The 3100 actually has a small motherboard, two PCI slots and SATA drive connections, simplifying a couple of issues.

Any ideas on my networking dilemma??

MSN Direct

I have been doing some thinking, and some looking, and here is what I have come up with.

MSN Direct is a service from MSN that gives you up to date information such as Traffic, Gas Prices, Movie Information, Weather, Etc.

Now, as far as I can tell, the only devices that support this are mainstream GPS navigation units, such as Garmin, and Pioneer's line of GPS Head Units. Also, the Microsoft Streets and Trips GPS USB Navigation Unit comes with MSN Direct as well.

Now I have been unable to to find out if you can only access the MSN Direct services in Streets and Trips, or if we could build support into frontends to be able to rip off this data and display it in the FE.

Granted if you dont live in the coverage area, it is worthless, but for those of us who do(Grand Rapids is well covered), then the $50 a year, or $100 for a lifetime subscription is well worth it.

Now I understand that alot of people have phones with data plans tethered to their carputers. But if you dont, or dont want to pay for the data fees, I see this as a good alternative to get pertinent information onto your carputer.

So my question is this: 1) Is there anyway to hack the MSN Direct Data off of the Streets and Trips GPS Receiver for use in frontends? and 2) If not, is there anyway we can create our own USB device that can receive MSN Direct Information?

Here is a link to the MSN Direct Development Kit Preview. If anyone is seriously interested in helping develop this product, I will pursue getting an official development kit from Microsoft.
