Alright so I've had my Kicker S12L7 for a while now. I've had it hooked up on a JBL mono amp and it's had this problem ever since I hooked it up. I had my passenger seat out yesterday to replace the seat cover and decided to mess with the amp (it is under the passenger seat).

The problem is that I can't set the boost all the way up because the sub outputs very fast/loud pulsating bass until I turn it down again. I hooked up my ipod to it with an aux adapter and was able to turn the boost all the way up without this happening.

I've narrowed it down to the head unit or the audio cable. Which do you think is the culprit? What do you think is the easiest/cheapest way to fix it?

Hey all, Well I'll keep this as short as I can, hopefully without missing anything.

System:

- Car PC with Creative Audigy NX USB sound
- Stereo O/P from this into Vibe deltabox 3-way line amp
- First O/P goes to 2 channel amp for front components
- Second is split to a 4 channel amp for two sets of 6x9's
- Third is split to two one channel amps for two 12" subs (stereo input, mono output)

So overall 2 x 12" subs, 4 x 6x9's and 2 x components. Everything is up and running and works together really well and now I've come to setting up the gains throughout the system and need a little advice to make sure I'm clear on it.

After a bit of googling, here's what i've done so far:

- Set all amp gains to their minimum, all bass boosts/enhancements off or minimum
- Set vibe deltabox gain to 0 (dial can be set from 0 to 20db) and set all output attenuation dials to 0 (can be set from -20db to 0)

So I figure everything after the carpc was at a base level with a minimum of gain throughout the system. Then setup a 1khz sinewave on the carpc and increased the carpc volume right up to 0db, no distortion, sounded perfect. Was certainly not quiet but I know that the amps/speakers are capable of much more.

Next step was to playing a track on the carpc and adjust the low pass cutoff frequency on one of the sub amps to just about drop out the vocals from the track. Then played a 100hz sinewave and measured the voltage output from that sub amp and took a note of it. Then moved the voltmeter over to the second sub amp and adjusted its LPF to match the output of the first. Finally I attenuated the deltabox outputs to the component and 6x9 amps to balance the system (only roughly for now).

So thats about where I am, all gains set to 0db (or as low as possible) the LPFs set to my liking for the subs and the overall balance pretty much right. Now I need to introduce some gain, just not exactly sure where!

I know I have a few db's to play with at the CarPC. I have 20db's from the deltabox and then there's the various gain dials on the amps. What I've read tells me that if I need gain then I should start from the beginning, i.e. carPC and if thats not enough then move onto the deltabox and then onto the amps if I have to.

Would readers agree with this? I was thinking of starting by increasing the carpc gain and litenning for distortion (distortion from the soundcard I mean, I know there won't be enough gain to trouble the amps/speakers at that stage). If this gets up to its max then moving onto the deltabox.

The deltabox has a little LED gauge that shows the output from its internal gain amp (1v up to 5v then overload). Now with the current output level from the carpc, I know that the delta box can give enough gain to overload its own output so I know that I wont be setting that gain to max. If i get to the point where I have maxed the gain from the carpc without distortion and maxed the gain from the deltabox without overload then its time to move onto the amps (very unlikely given the quick bit of playing around that I did this evening before packing it in for the night).

hhmmmm, not as short as I was trying to make it, lol. Anyway, thats pretty much all the info. Would really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions from the guys out there who know their stuff when it comes to audio.

Thanks, Jon.

Ok Right now I have 2 10" mtx 5500's in a vented enclosure with a profile 1000 watt amp giving out 500 rms at 2ohms. My bro just got 2 10" alpine type r's in a vented enclosure with a kenwood 9104d mono amp pushing out over 900 rms at 1ohm.

So what I was wondering is if i got 3 pioneer chapion series 10" subs rated at 350rms each. and his amp and wire them to 1.33 ohms in a sealed box if it will be louder. I believe it will be since I will have 3 and their sensitivity is rated at 90 instead of alpines 84. If anyone has any other suggestions im open for hearing.

Also I am also planning on getting two sets of component infinity kappas (one in front wear stock speakers are located and other pair making a box for in my back seat) and wirring them with a 4 channel amp while keeping a pair of coaxial infinity kappa 6x9s in the back stock speaker holder, running off my aftermarket stereo. is this possible?

In the end I will have something that looks like this...

- Sony 630ui head unit
- 4 infinity kappa component speakers ( running of kenwood 4 channel amp)
- 2 infinity kappa coaxial 2 way speakers (running off head units 22 rms)
- Kenwood Kac - 8404 4 channel amp (75 rms each channel at 2 ohm)
- Kenwood Kac - 9104d mono amp (10hm stable putting out < 900 rms)
- 3 Pioneer Premier champion series subwoofers (350 rms each)

How will this sound? Its around a 900 Dollar system I believe. Any other suggestions or replacements?

I'm working on a mac mini install which only outputs stereo sound. So I figure I'll simply use splitters for the front and back speakers and a 2 channel amp. But since I have kids I desperately want to be able to fade the sound to the backseat of my van so I don't have to hear the same kid music every single day.

I know very little about car audio so I'm not sure if this is either possible and/or a good idea. But it seems to me that it would be relatively easy to get parts from radio shack that would contain four RCA female adapters connected to two potentiometers or two switches that would sit between the amp and the front L/R speakers. Then simply flip the switches or dial down the volume in just the front speakers. No voltage, no sound. Viola! 2 channel fade for less than $10.

Or... is that a stupid idea?

For obvious reasons i want to wire in 1ohm, but my local installer has recommended against, as it may be more unreliable and when wired in 4ohm..
Just after some opinions really...
Thanks in advance.
Zotac board with built in Realtek sound going out to Memphis amps that are activated by the M2ATX power supply. A few questions regarding buzzing and poppin:

How to get rid of the initial "pop" when the carputer gets through the windows boot screen?
How to get rid of various buzzing during the post and boot screen?
Noises/faint buzzing generated when you move a mouse on the screen - where do these noises come from?
Sometimes in Centrafuse or Streetdeck when everything is muted you can hear buzzing/faint noises when you touch buttons - Ide assume that whatever got rid of the mouse moving noises would get rid of this as well.

Its my understanding that using a magnet to reduce "noise" will only get rid of actual noise and not whatever small output is coming from the computer.

Ideas? I searched but maybe I suck at searching.

So here's the story. I installed my wife's car computer and I have a ton of noise. After some research I believe most of it is because the OEM car radio had a head unit connected to an amp with speaker level inputs. I am running a USB sound blaster with 3.5mm connectors kludged to the connector that plugs in where the head unit used to be. Now that I know that the amp wants to see speaker level inputs, it seems that I have two choices. I can get an amp with line level inputs and run the outputs of the sound blaster into that, then in-turn run the output to the stock amplifier using the stock connector(where the head unit was). Or I could just buy a new line level input amp and replace the stock amp. I know this seems like it would be the best choice, but here's the thing. By placing an amp between the car computer and the stock amp, I can utilize my connector to connect into the stock system and I'm done. But by replacing the stock amp, I will have to cut the stock connector off or run new lines or something, because I don't have that connector. Also, I believe the amp would be less expensive because I don't need that much power. Either way it sounds like I'm buying a new amp. I'm leaning toward placing an amp between the computer and the stock amp, due to the easier install.

Any hints or suggestions? I hope this was clear. Feel free to ask questions.

The car is a 1999 Toyota Solara. I don't know how much power the head unit put out or how much the stock amp puts out. All I know is it does NOT have shielded wires.

I have a simply query.

I'd like to use 2 soundcards with a carputer, one for spoken content, one for media. Can I do this with streetdeck or will I have to use another program?

Thanks

i got a fully active setup :

3 way front + sub

later i will surely add another chanel to get a full 4 way + sub.

ok now i got the intel mobo + cpu dual core...

i run active with my xonar d2 pci.
but with just one xonar i cant get the exact number of chanel i want ! (later i waill maybe add some chanels :P) to get a 5 way front + sub...anyways,..

now i have the folowing with audiomulch and asio driver.

4 instense of electri-q
4 instense of rubebrfilter(xover)
one of voxengo delay

in electri- q i am using the digital mode(iun all chanels)...and my cpu si at 50% load

i would like to use when i will have the setup...one instense of electri-q per speaker!..so like 11 intense in the same time!

so i am wondering if the INTEL CORE 2 DUO E7400 would be enought for this...

i also need to change my mobo to get two pci port

so i am wondering if this one is good: ASUS P5KPL-AM SE SKT775.
is it too cheaper for a carputer?( i think the intel dualcore 1.6 i have now is cheaper...but who knows?

i live in canada so it is frosty in winter...and hot in summer.

i got the 360 w opu psu...so the power is not a problem.

thanks...sorry if it is not a perfect post...i am not english
