I'm not a complete electronics noob, but this screen I bought is very frustrating. It's an RCA 8in TFT LCD screen model #RC80HV.

The manual provides absolutely no info on how to install it.

The monitor has a din connector coming out the back, it comes with three cables:

1. female din to a female S-video cable
2. male s-video to audio/video rca jacks, and what looks like a female
3. very thin gauge (my guess is 20 AWG) red wire with a fuse, and a white wire that I think is a ground connection...both go to 2 male DC jacks (i'm assuming for a second monitor)

I thought the installation looked obvious, so I tried it myself...I hooked up the DIN connector to the female S-Video, hooked the male S-video to that, connected one the male DC jacks to the female one, connected the power to 12V+ switched from my head unit, and connected the white power to a good ground.

when i turned the car on, the screen turned bright white and makes a terrible cracking/flickering noise, accompanied with weird noise from my speakers. for an instant when the screen turns on, I can see a message dialogue, probably from the screen's menu function, but it quickly turns white and the awful noise won't stop. I'm afraid to keep it on to see what happens because it sounds like somethings gonna burn out.

please help, i've tried everything to find some model-specific guides, but rca provides zero support for this model. i don't know how old it is, but I bought it off ebay described as new from a dependable seller.

thanks for your help and patience with my inexperience!

I just bought a 2001 Blazer and am planning a new screen. My 10.4" that im using now is just too big. I want a something smaller, thinking a 7"

The model I have my eye on is a Xenarc 700TSV.

Ive looked thru the build threads for people that use this screen and see that some people have theirs installed with no buttons visible. I'd like to do something similiar.

Now do they just disconnect the buttons entirely, or reroute them somewhere else?

Any info would be appreciated! :yo:

I just scored four Audiovox FPE2705 27inch LCD TVs. My job was going to throw them away because all you hear is sound but no picture. When we had them sent to the shop, they quoted almost $200.00 to $500.00 per TV. For $300.00 it was cheaper to just buy new ones.

Anyways, so I took them home, connected my PS2 to the TV and turned it on. First the Audiovox logo comes on clear as day, but after its gone, the back light shuts off. I know there is an image because I can hold a bright LED light to it and see image and hear sound. I am thinking that maybe the control board is messed up and shutting off the back light after a momment in time. My idea was to add a second inverter that is seperate from the control board. I really dont care about brightness settings, as long as I can see the image. Any ideas on how I go about this? Could I maybe use a PICO PSU to power the back lights?

A) Why the heck to we have to pay AUD$400 for a 7 inch touchscreen, when they have monitors about 50 billion times bigger (And better resolution, and multitouch!!) for an extra fifty bucks?

B) Anyone considered trying to fit one of these in portrait mode in their dash? Would it be worth it? I don't have the space in my Mazda Tribute to fit it, at least not without some serious dash work, which would leave me divorced, but anyone got a hankering for some massive resolution boost in their carpc?

I've built a mini-ITX PC for the purpose of using it as a CarPC eventually (i.e. once I get everything working on the bench at home). Currently it is set up dual boot with LinuxICE as the default and WinXP as optional. I've been trying to get my bearings with LinuxICE, but can't figure out how to install the touchscreen driver for my display - the VM70. Anybody have any knowledge of how to do this on LinuxICE?

Couple things to note: the VM70 didn't include drivers for LinuxICE, but does for Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Debian, and others. I was hoping either the Ubuntu or Debian drivers would work. If not, trying to take the source from those and compile it for LinuxICE.

I do have the VM70 functioning for WinXP and love it! I have Shotgun! running and it works ok, but I'd really like to abandon Windows and completely switch to LinuxICE as developments/progress is made. Thanks for the help!
