Machining something really small, really cheap? Canada?

If I needed, say, a 1mm square piece of metal a few inches long, how easy is that to machine?

Basically I need a Robertson Square screwdriver. Which is ubiquitous in Canada, but not here in the US.

They come in standard sizes, #00 being the smallest.

however, I can not find a single place that sells #00, only #0 sizes.

Since the screwdriver would basically be just 1mm x 1mm x 5 inches or something, how difficult would it be to just machine from a larger square stock?

well im guessing you want tool steel, so its going to be expensive.

how about this?

http://www.mcmaster.com/itm/find.ASP...string=2634T14

and then you can cut it to roughly the correct amount, and then finish sand it.

i looked around for 00 robertson, cant find anything either.

I don't think I've ever seen a robertson screw or driver as small as that. Maybe you could contact the robertson company ask what retailers are selling the #00 driver. http://www.robertsonscrew.com/

I looked a bit more into it. the #00 is still too large.

1mm x 1mm is probably a proprietary size.

I dont know if I need high class metal to make it, seeing as how its so small and under little stress from the nature of the slot.

Have you found your screw driver yet. Would take much. Just take a 00 driver bit and mount it on an indexing fixture and five minutes of grinding time. Any machine grinding shop can do this simple operation.

some folks in the states call the square recess...but 1mm is propriotary...try getting a small flat head in there.(corner to corner)...at that size it should work free.
i'd send you whatever you need from here in toronto...just say the word

Check with a really good Klien tools retailer... this sounds like the yellow dot robertson that many old telephone construction guys had in their tool belts. In the tel/elect trade it would have been a #4 (i think that is 0 in other schemes)
