Personally, I'd rather pay to have it done over rattle-canning it. The fading will come from the quality of paint, and the UV protection in/on it. The flaking would be either from bad prep, bad prime, or not using a plasticizer in the paint/primer.

Yeah, and sem stuff vinyl dye. What he is painting is hard plastic. It doesn't require dye. Dye is also harder to spray and its going to eventually come off( even with adhesion promoter). I am not a fan of the stuff either. Its just a good CHEAP fix. Thats not really that cheap anymore. The great thing about letting someone else do it is they have to fix it when it messes up because of years worth of armor all thats on it.

It might just be easier to get a cheap $15 airbrush if you have a compressor for air tools. Mixing it yourself isn't that hard if you can't get it from the auto paint store.

In the end, for one project, you're going to have better luck, and spend WAY less having someone else do it. You're looking at primer, paint, clear, thinner, catalyst, adhesion promoter, wax & grease remover, and plasticizer as the needed chemicals if you were to sand/smooth and gloss finish the entire piece. (remove primer & clear for OEM look) Combined, that's a fair amount of products, whereas an automotive paint shop is going to have all of this, or at least 90% of it, and would be able to churn it out in a day or two for you.

it has no paint. its all the color of the plastic. im not wanting to smooth it or anything. that peice is too much of the dash to smooth. i think in the end, i will like that i spent the extra $$ to get it professionally done with all the proper quality materials and many years experience compared to my 15 minutes.
