Carputer in AC box under dash in RX7
Well I was trying to fit the custom box that I made for my carputer to fit under the dash where my AC box was, but only to find out that I couldn't reduct the air from the blower to the heater core easily, so then it struct me, gut the inside of the ac box, then slam the computer in there. The car blower will act as a cooling fan for the computer. And also the sweet thing is even if the heater is on, because it is ducted after the AC box, it will always be cold air blowing through it.

You may be asking for problems with condensation.

Probably, as air is typically 32-40F coming out of the evap. Turn off the car and presto, instant rain.
Make sure the condensation drain wont get plugged, but I'm not sure that will save you.
Did you read the PC cooling FAQ?

I'm working on RX-7 carPC, but my plan is to fit everything into one double din box. I have case made and it looks like it will work. Tight, but will work

then the airtight case would have to be a pretty good cpu heatsink as well (or something like that, beyond that small heatsink and fan), and have enough external surface area to remove that heat. Since that solution would make the computer's internal air cooling a closed system. And radiant and conduction heat transfered from the air inside the box through the airtight case to the air outside the box(cooling) would be much less than which would be achieved with an open system.

If I understand this correctly, I believe he is not using the AC. He is only using the blower. Therefore there shouldn't be much of a condensation problem since it will always be ambient air. However, from the pictures, it looks like the air flow is almost completely cut off by the PCI card. I don't think he's going to get much use out of the blower or cooling for the computer that way. Just my $0.02.

Great point.

wow ... totally forgot about this forum for a while ... yes the AC is out and not using it, its Canada we all live in Igloos :P. Yes the blower has been restricted by the PCI card, but it all works great, I've had the thing in the car for about a month now and with it raining and stuff and not a single problem.
