Aah, actually i figured it might be something with my IDE CD-ROM, i'll have to try and fiddle with the master/slave/cable select on it, maybe thats the problem.

Hmm, i received my new laptop sata drive today, and its the same problem, it is never detected in the bios post ? any ideas anyone ?

Do you have any IDE device plugged in? You may want to try it with that disconnected. Also, what are the BIOS settings regarding the IDE/SATA stuff?

right now all that is connected is the sata drive, the bios settings are default. There is one called sata mode, but you can only select ide as an option there, what is that all about ?

I just tried putting the new sata drive in my home pc, and it works fine, there is nothing wrong with the drive. I also tried powering it from an external psu instead of the motherboards internal dc-dc circuit, no luck either. the bios simply does not detect anything on the sata port. Also windows sees the sata controller, but no disks on it.

Hmm, that's strange. I will go into my BIOS this weekend and see what my settings are. What is the model number of the drive?
