No, I haven't been to any meets. I might be somewhat out of place; I'm an old dude.
I'd consider it, though. I'll put the October 12 meet in Orlando on my schedule and see if I can get up there.

AHAHAHAHHA, you think all the guys are young? You have to go to one, you'll be surprised at the age ranges. CarPCs' seem to catch the attention of all ages.
Nexon, just wanted to let you know that my install is finally on track and hopefully soon you will be able to someday add the pictures of my dash, that I so want you to do. In the next coming months my finances will be alot better. I did start on the 2 screens that are to be mounted on the top of the dash. I basically took care of the hard part on how the guts of the screen will go into the dash, did alot of modification, I hope to post pictures in my worklog. The only thing you have to build, is the flip up part of the screen and its case that has to look OEM (which I know you'll get perfectly). I dont know if this will make it hard or easy, but the screen area has to be detachable like a whole accembly because I have to be able to take it off if I have to change the circuit boards or something. The casing for those is permanant, so they cant be removed.

Well i tested them in traffic at night at a stop light. one guy pulled up next to me with his ricer vehicle revving his engine so i just decided to pop trunk on him right quick. and everyone went crazy it was fun. the speakers are loud but not obnoxious, it's clear. It was priceless.

I'd hate to sound like an ***, but how is your maxima NOT a ricer?
According to the urban dictionary, a ricer is
"A person who makes unecessary modifications to their...import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster."
or
"Any oriental import car that has been modified for no real performance gain."
or
"Ricer - Any person who adds tasteless modifications to a perfectly normal automobile."
Who puts a frickin screen in the trunk? Sure you get tons of use out of that, and those clear tails, stupid. The stock lights looked so much better, and that two tone with the pinstripe, trite if anything, especially with the mismatched spoiler. And, don't even get me started on the rims, performance is actually worse with those wheels, you don't have enough sidewall to corner well, so it's all show, no go... and it's not even that much show. Nexson did a good enough job, but was it worth the money? Really?
And to boot you "showed him up" (the other ricer) with your sound system. I wonder what medals you won, or if you won any money for that.
I'm all for having a nice sound system, and modifying your car, but only if it's for a very good, specific reason. If you are just "showing it off" you better be making money off it, or winning dB drags, otherwise, save your hearing, and the neighborhood, and make the mods make sense.
I also don't care if I get flamed for this, I just wanted to prove a point about ricers, and morpheus2010, IMO you fall into that category.

Any any car nomatter USDM, JDM or whatever when modified stupidly is "rice". Mostly done to imports because they are better.
Anyways, any carwith a CarPC is an abnormal non-performance mod. Therefore everyone on here is rice. But to me that doesnt count.
Something like a screen in the trunk, automatically puts you in the ricer category...

First off, to those haters that try to look at my hobby in a financial logical way, IT"S A HOBBY, i don't drink i don't smoke, i don't blow money at strip clubs, this is something to kill time and makes me happy, When you are active duty military you need a hobby to get your mind off dead friends trust me. Okay so i apprecaite the financial tip but i do it just for fun and that's it. And for those who appreciate it, don't worry i will have a full length video of the whole thing soon with a higher quality, my friend goes to fullsail in orlando he had one of those expensive hi def digital camcorders so we'll get a full video for you guys to see it, And i have a suprise for you all.

I don't understand the flames -- what's the point? It's his time, his money, his choice, all the way through the project. If we don't want to read it or comment on it, we don't have to. We especially don't have to flame.
Seems like every step forward we've made as a humans has been because some nut wanted to go overboard. We wouldn't be exploring space if it weren't for the fact that some wacko wanted to leave Earth and go beyond. The gains in engineering and medicine and other areas have been impressive. But it happened because some crackpot wanted to fly and another crackpot started building rockets and other crackpots did other stuff that added up to a space program.
I don't want a screen in my trunk. Others do, and that's okay. Some want a sound system that can cause physical damage to their hearing, and I'm uninterested. But those are the same people who are moving the boundaries of sound production out, and one of the side effects is that the speakers available to me are vastly better than the ones I could get ten years ago.
I have some sympathy, too, because I was active duty military a helluva long time ago, and we took up some pretty strange projects while we were away from home. We lived in space-constrained military housing, and had to have projects we could take away with us on short notice. Automotive projects were popular because, if our duty station changed, we could either take it to the new duty station or park it until we got home again.
There were sound nuts -- audiophiles -- who built amazing stereo systems, some from scratch or kits. There were hot rodders who lived under their hoods. I was an off-roader, and I spent weekends growling across the Rockies with survival gear in the back. Then I got orders, and I put away the hobby, strapped on, and went off to war. While I was overseas, some of my daydreams were about what I'd add to my four-wheeler; it helped keep me a little more sane.
Now the audiophiles and the hot rodders have morphed into a new form -- tuners -- and they get names like "ricer." Maybe they're nuts, and maybe they're on the leading edge of a push into a new field. We won't know until it's in the history books.
Thomas Edison was crazy. It's said he tried 10,000 substances before he found the right one to produce the light bulb, and I get to benefit from his craziness. Lots of crazies killed themselves trying to be birdmen, and, every time I fly, I get to benefit from their craziness. Other crazies have done damage to themselves in myriad ways, and maybe I've benefited from it.
Please hold the hating; it isn't necessary, and it isn't healthy. I don't mean to get a psychology-oriented on you, but this is an anger thing, and every anger is based in some sort of fear. So what is there about this man's hobby that brings up some fear in you? Everything else I've read from you has been helpful and positive, and your work on the car is impressive. What pain brought all this up? Chill, please.
And cut the guy a break; he's serving our country. He gets extra stars on his report card for that, an extra helping at my table. He could be in the desert on a moment's notice, and, even if he hasn't already been there himself, I suspect he's lost friends there. This is a guy who stood up and said, "I will," when others wouldn't. He's already accepted whatever mission they choose for him, and has promised never to turn them down. That's a display of guts that far surpasses the actions of the average citizen. On that basis alone, he gets a lot of breaks from me. And he gets my respect.
Whether you like his hobby or not, he deserves respect for the quality of his work. If it falls short, he deserves our help in making it better, not our condemnation.
He clearly doesn't deserve flames. If we can't be constructive, it's time to button up the lip and be silent.
I apologize if I got preachy. I get tremendous benefit from this forum, and I don't want to see its tone get soured.

The ""Urband Dictionary"" ??? Really?? Where can i buy a copy. I thought "ricer" was exclusively reserved for those asian imports with those loud obnoxious exhaust, but then again that is my interpretation. Point im making is, the meaning is all subjective. I for one don't go for the loud exhaust, "screen in the trunk" and most those other mods, but i did once upon a time so i cant burn it. However, what is more practical than a ca pc? I Initially started looking ito this because (1) I was tired of CDs in the car, and i once had over 400 stolen from there (2) I was tired of all those little practical gadgets (gps, back up sensor, ipod etc) hangin all over the car. I've been able to do this and so much more because of this forum with ideas and suggestion from people with all difernent views on what is the coolest mod. So can we please respect each others opinions and experiences and get back to making RR beter so i can take advantage..>>>>>> Please respect my two cents.
