probel during investigation phase

Hello:
I wanted to go through new fabrication to enhance phase 2

behind the console there is a tall metal bar.

and as you see the monitor does not exactly fit because of that bar is behind.

what can I do?

Monitor looks fine too me.

I thought you were going to mold the monitors bezel into the panel?

No I didn't think about that , I need it removable , what I wanted is to have a nice frame to have the monitor and an external CD.

I wanted it removable and wanted OEM.

Just tape off the monitor and get some Duraglass or Bondo glass and spread it around the edges of the screen. This will give you the shape of the bezel once you pull the monitor out.

you mean , just to surround the edges of the monitor with bondo glass? and what about the CD?

I'll try to find that material in a local store , such materials are not allowed to be shipped.

Hi i see you got a vauxhall sory opel astra MK4 i also have a MK4 astra and have moulded a screen into the dash in the position you have yours and that metal bar u are talking about needs to be cut out for the monitor to fit perfect also you will need to blank of the air vent at the back where the monitor is otherwise when you have the heaters on in winter the monitor will overheat. hope this helps mate.

Thanks m8 , what is that metal bar for? I guessed it is for safety reasons.

To be honest mate i havent got a clue what it is for i think it might have something to do with saftey as well like if you get a side impact then the dash board wont crumple in because that bar stops it but that is just a theory. when i took mine out i was also worried incase the dashboard caved in where the bar should have been but i can assure you the dash board stays solid even when you take it out. I will try and find some pictures of when i took the metal bar outta mine to help u mate.

Thanks Astraboyracer , it's clear that the fabrication we did has some disadvantages, removing the air vents and the hazard button , and cutting the metal bar (in your case)
I want to try 2 other fabrications ,but they are harder
1-moving air con buttons din to the free din and and use the HU din with the airo con din
2-rebuilding Satnav screen console to have the 7" monitor instead of the 5" satnav.

those are just thoughts I don't know even how to do.

In the first one of "moving air con buttons din to the free din and and use the HU din with the airo con din" i wanted to originaly go down this path and i looked into it i even physicaly tryed to move it however there is a cable simular to a bike brake lead that is linked to the unit and this is the length of the unit making trying to move it near impossiable unless you try to exstend it. It moves a bit but not enough to relocate it lower. I wouldn't even known where to start with exstending the cabelsi guess it could be done.( however i have seen a picture recently of a convertable astra and that had a different air con/ heater box thing that was moved lower never looked into it i will try find the picture and upload it aswell.

and as for the second option sounds like a good idea howerver the screen may sit up quite high effecting your few when driving esspecially at night the screen may reflect really badly of the windsreen also if the screen is set that far back it might make it hard to touch the screen to change track or something when you are driving as you would have to strech just a thought.

Heres them pictures i was telling you about

This is what the dash board looks like without anything done just took the center section out.

Although you can't see the cabels i was talking about if you have a look at the air con/ heater box one side sits low enough for you to have it down the bottom but as you can see the other side sits far to high and that is as low as that side goes because of the metal cabel resticting it from going any further down. This is why i couldn't bring the air con / heater box down as far as i wanted it as well.

This is a picture of a close up of the metal bar and the air vent that will need to be blocked.

This is a picture of where i blocked the air vent of for this i used an old plastic dvd case and cut out the required shape as you can sort of see in the picture.

Then in this picture i had to seal the unit and make it strong enough so it wouldnt fall out / get blasted out with the air. I originaly used silicon sealent for this same stuff you use arround a bath edge this was pretty strong and held the full blast of the air con however when i put the heaters on the silcon couldnt handel it and lossened from the plastic causing the plastic to fall out. So i then decided the best thing to do was fiberglass it so i did and it was really strong and with held everything its still there till this day lol.

Then came the bit where i had to take out the metal section as you can see the dash was still standing after i took it out.

Then finnaly i tested fitted my screen and it went it perfectly.

Heres a picture of that convertable i was on about see what i mean about the air con / heater unit its different from ours.

Yes it's the control cable. I'll check if it can be exapanded or not.

not that high , but it needs total re-shaping , and that's out of my abilities.

It seems that I have to leave it as it is just try to do what Nexson recommended.

I'll take that in consideration when buying a new car
