moveable screen

hey guys,

lets just start by saying that while i can install car audio equipment, what i'm wanting to do is outside my level of expertise. i have a 95 model toyota supra, and im going to mount a 7" touchscreen in the dash in place of the stereo head unit. what i want to do is make the mounting so that the screen sits flush in the console, but also so it can pivot along the left hand side of the screen, so it effectively 'pops out' of the right hand side of the console and swings so that it faces the passenger. the why of this is due to the console & dash being wrapped around the driver effectively making the touchscreen unreadable from the passengers seat (ive included photos of the cabin so that those of you unfamiliar with the inside of the car can see what im up against.)

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Two options - put it in the upper left of the dash and let it swivel, or just put in an additional screen for the passenger.

I think the pivot idea is great. You just need to find a point to pivot (the center of the screen for example) and make stoppers behind the dash so that the screen doesnt spin all the way around. Then you could make it so that you simply push the edges of the screen to rotate it...

since i posted this last night i had another idea, im thinking of putting the pivot on the extreme left of the screen and using an electric motor to extend and retract the screen, but im not sure how to go about doing that. has anyone done something similar to this in their setup before?

or you could install the screen flush with the dash angled towards you, and for the passenger get one of these

use a linear actuator if that is what you want.

wow, linear actuator eh? like i said, im a bit of a noob when it comes to this, i dont really know how to put my ideas into practice or what sort of equipment i should be using as this is way beyond anything ive built before. thanks for the help everyone, youve all given me some good ideas to follow up on

you could modify a head rest lilliput casing to swing left to right instead of up or down. Just a thought.
