security fab up cover
has anyone made anything that covered their screen while not in use so it looks like belongs there and keeps peering eyes away?

Yup, I did. Piece of cardboard spray painted black, then glued on the plastic faceplate of an old cassette stereo with half of a cassette tape sticking out for effect. Put it on top of my lcd screen everytime I park in public. Every single person who first sits in my car thinks it is my actual radio, until I pull it off =)

Some pics I took a while ago. Probably shouldn't cheap out like me and use spray painted cardboard, because the edges are starting to peel off. Looks too ghetto. Trying to find a plastic sheet to use instead.

This was actually discussed a couple of years ago:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...theft-mod.html
Still, that's an awesome idea for older cars. I doubt thieves would believe that you replaced a CD player for a tape deck in newer cars (maybe use the same concept for a CD?)

Well most theives are dumb anyways, but having a radio faceplate that looks 10 years older than the car...kind of suspicious as to what the owner is hiding behind there for the expert thief. I would have used my stock radio if I hadnt lost it.

Wow such a funny idea, great!
Maybe just using the same idea but 2 1DIN faceplates glued together that looks like "nothing here because I am changing my radio".
