custom Jeep TJ dash

Well seen as my opus decided to die I decided to finally get ambitious and do some glass/bondo work. It turned out alright, however, I still need to resand a couple of spots to smoothen it out....

What are you going to do about the a/c vents? are you just going to block'em? I have a 00TJ, and I will probably put a carputer in it (after I recoup from the last one ), so I'm thinking of methods of installing it.

undecided....hehe...i was thinking about going to the junkyard and finding some rectangle vents, but in all honesty ya don't need them? for me I have used my A/C maybe 3 times in the 3 years I've had it? And in the winter time the heat is a little too intense at times so I dont think I'll miss them, we'll see though!

I am thinking about doing something similiar.... getting rid of my center AC vents.. sadly i use mine ALL the time.. but if i get rid of them i have a TON of room now behind the dash where i can plae the entire carputer.... my problem comes in... if i leave my vents open there (dont block them off with ABS or something) then when i have the AC on... it will help in keeping my carputer cool which is good.. HOWEVER when its winter i will ahve the heat on.. and that will heat my puter.. and thats no good.... anyone have any suggestions?

I may go to a junk yard and see if i can pick up some vents from a differennt style and work them in....

WOW Blake that looks awesome. I was following your install for some time now and it looks really cool. Here in FL though I NEED those vents, so I was thinking about doing one of a few options, replace the headunit entirely, Mount it in the same location you did, but replace the vents with two round ones from a mitsubishi, or go above the vents with a custom enclosure.

How is this with glare, any issues? I also noticed you have it sitting flat in the dash rather than angled towards you slightly, has that caused any issues?

Based on your computer specs, it sounds like you went with a desktop HD rather than a laptop HD. How is that working out?

Man I can't wait to get started on mine now!!

Well.....funny story, I got the dash done and the Jeep dies on me! Well sort of, I keep blowing the automatic shutoff fuse on crank, so it's at the stealership now and I didn't get to test it at all.

However, the two side vents blow pretty damn well now with the two middles being plugged, I dont think it's going to be that big of a deal. I would say move the vents to the sides of the screen instead of messing with the HU, you will have to move the vents anyways doing it that way.

As for glare, I think there will be the same amount as my old location with the top down, but with the top up I think it will look fine. Hopefully I'll have my Jeep back midweek and then I'll have my opus back too and can finally try it out!

I'll post some glare pics once I get it back.
