Toyota Corolla 04 Install

So I've got a Toyota Corolla S-Class 2004 and I want to some how integrate a carputer into my dash although I have no idea how to aproach this.

I've all ready got a Fujitsu VGA touchscreen 8.3inch and all of the other goodies to go along with it. I've looked around the net and the forums and I haven't found any Corolla installs. I dont know where to place the unit or if I can't put it in dash how would I go about mounting it? Idealy I would like it mounted where the cd/radio is or below that where there is the extra strorage space that I don't use. If pictures would help I can take some and post...

Any input would be apreciated... Thanks guys

Question...

Are you wanting to know how to put the entire carputer in the dash, or just the LCD display?

Idealy I'm wanting to use this Fujitsu Stylistic 2300 I've got. So that would mean installing the whole 8.4inch touchscreen and computer into the dash. It's much cheaper to go that route vs. buying a new touch screen setup. Although I'm willing to do whatever aslong as it's with in budget.

I googled this page, it's got some inside and out photos of my Toyota.

Thanks guys

Hi blakeh, Glad to see someone with a Toyota Corolla 2004. I just bought a Toyota Corolla 1.8 GLi from Venezuela like 2 months ago and I have been tearing it apart to install my carputer. I currently live in Guayaquil, Ecuador so my version of my Corolla is a bit different than yours. Not much difference your version than mine.

I have probably 80% or more done, what I really need to do is install an amp since I don't have a HU. I will be posting pictures when I am completely done with my install.

I see it really hard to install the computer in the dash, what I did to mine is to put the case all the way to the trunk since the trunk space is pretty big. I also made a door for extra security. Installing a 8.3inch LCD is going to be kind of hard, but not impossible.

Where are you planning to install your LCD, where your HU is or below the A/C controls? What comp spec are you planning to install and how big is your case?

difficult to tell with that size of picture. also the size of screen you've got may be difficult to fit. but there seems to be space under the heating controls. or you could move them down and put it a bit higher.

I have an Australian 2002 Corolla, which looks a little similar to yours on the inside. Getting the dash apart is the biggest ***** because the dash is almost all moulded in once piece. You can take your existing head unit out by popping out the air vents around it (angle the vents down, stick your fingers in the recess and pull towards you very carefully). After that you'll need a hex bit on the end of a flexible screwdriver to undo the screws for the head unit, the screws are quite deep in and you won't be able to get them out using a straight screwdriver.

If you want to take apart more things, pull the face off the middle dial and there should be a screw behind that. Undo the screw, pull out your cigarette tray. Unscrew the knob on the end of the gearstick, and open the higher compartment near your seat. Remove the black fabric at the bottom (might be glued down in yours), undo the screws with a hex bit, then lift the whole thing up carefully from the back end, with the front end tilted forward slightly. be careful not to scratch your handbrake when lifting this up...

I haven't removed any more of my dash other than that... The rest of the dash looks incredibly hard to pull apart, and if anyone manages to do it please post how because i haven't been able to do it However, there's lots of space behind the dash and it's quite easy to route wires around.

Btw i think an 8.3" LCD is kinda big to fit anywhere in the dash...

hey blakeh,

I have the '03 corolla s model (and love it ). I've been putting my carputer for some time now... as far as integrating an lcd into the dash, a 7" lilliput or xenarc should fit in pretty tight where the stock double-din headunit is. Here is a pic of my lcd install:

If you went this route, though, i doubt you'd be able to fit your 8.3" into this space... That's a lilliput touchscreen in the pic, and you can see that it barely fits on the top and bottom. Although... now that I'm thinking about it, you might be able to fit it if you go mold directly to the vent piece. What I did was use a scosche single-din adapter found here , and cut out the middle stuff, cut out the frame of the lilliput (the part that holds the screen), epoxied the two, and bondo'd it to what i wanted. If you leave out the scosche adapter, you might be able to fit your screen in there.

note: putting your lcd here takes away the use of your headunit. but once you have the carputer, will you be using it anyways? (currently, i use an aftermarket amp and stock speakers)

I've come to the conclusion that I'll need to purchase a new touchscreen. Now to figure out where I want to put the thing. I'm liking between the two AC vents above, I'm going to order a 7inch touchscreen from digitalww.

http://www.digitalww.com/TM700TS.htm

I will update when I get the unit and with my specifications on my puter with pictures.

Thanks for all of your help guys.

Heres an update:

I ordered this today http://www.digitalww.com/TM700TS.htm, a 7inch vga touch lcd.

Also I've ordered this http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOTA2048B, the car wiring harness and required cables to interface to the cars existing stereo system aswell as the kit to make it flush mount.

Also ordered the xeon white/blue tint lights..

I wanted to go budget on this project so I've ordered one of these http://www.prefixtech.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=SYSDS008 for my computer setup. It will fit snug under the passenger seat. It's a 500mhz/128mb/10gb --- In addition to that i'll be adding a second 120gb for MP3s etc and an extra 128mb along with Windows XP Pro.

I'll have Medicar/XM Radio PCR/Winamp with a GPS USB unit from ebay, the XM radio USB PCR (my existing Roady 1 will be retired), D-Link FM Radio USB, Belkin 4 Port USB Hub, Hauppauge USB TV Tuner, Linksys 802.11b USB, Motorola MXP200 USB docking station, In-Dash DVD/CD Player.

The In-Dash dvd player will go at the bottom of the dash in the provided space, no modding will have to be done.

I'm doing the same thing as bulgogi777 and expoxing my lcd to the back of where the headunit used to be and interface with the car speakers.

The total cost is going to be around $500.
