I still want the option to use my head unit. I paid a good $500 for it and it's not going anywhere. Besides I need something to fall back on when the computer *****s up, and I know it will eventually.

what if you take the lcd out of the casing and mount it. That usually saves lots of room

That's fine. A little travel does the truck good. Besides I have my Blue Logger on my laptop in case I get lost!

I've seen it done somewhere and it looked pretty cool, every thought about mounting your headunit above your window, Like if your sitting in your car, look at the readview mirror, and then look due up from that, normally cars have like a directional computer or something there, Maybe go 5 inches or so back from that and mount your HU there, I've seen pictures of it done on these forums and it proably would be fun to do. Just my 2¢

I too have never worked with fiberglass or bondo, but I really look forward to doing it this summer when my wallet allows me to...

@TahoeZoo - Nice install. Question: Have you had any problems with the DVD drive mounted vertically? What kind of attachment/hardware did you use to mount it? Anything special?

Saab9-5 so far no problems. i actually made a fiberglass mold and set the drive in it. worked out pretty good. keeps it really stable.
