Project CompuMach: Lilliput install started (lots of pics)
Hey guys, I started moulding my lilliput screen into my dash the past few days, just want to see what you think so far. Suggestions and tips would be great.
I didn't want to modify the existing radio bezel so I bought a used one off ebay. The colour is not the same but I'm going to get it painted to match my interior.
This is the car its going in, its a 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1:
This is the interior now as it is:

This is the bezel bought off ebay:

Originally I was trying not to cut the trim on the bezel so I notched out the back of the lilliput screen:

But then I realized that was great and all but I wouldn't be able to reinstall the screen :P So I ended up cutting it out with a cutoff wheel. I must have went through about 20 discs :S

I lined up the lilliput case with a few pieces of cardboard on each side to get it perfectly centred then used a glue gun to stick the case to the top of the bezel so it wouldn't move while bondoing. Behind the screen there are two wood stoppers holding the screen up:

Here's the first layer of bondoglass to keep the screen in place:

Stupid me forgot gloves so I decided to use my hands. Bondoglass is a ***** to get off :P

After it dried i sanded it down a bit:

There are a lot of grooves and crap still. Should I use the bondoglass again or should I switch over to the regular bondo?
Thanks,
Chris

You can now go to the "red" bondo. Bondo glass is only needed for initial strength. The regular stuff is easier to sand, and is better for detail work.

Good Work - God, I wish I had a nice square dash to work with... my bezel is taller on the left than on the right - it slopes from 9" to 7" from left to right... Crazy... And - the pitch is angled too!

Nice! If you can't see that hole when it's in the car, why fill it in? Why not use it for ventalation or lights or a CD drive or extra hidden controls or something? And how do you match the bottom silver part with the rest of it? Dye or textured paint?

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Curiosity: well you can't really see it but you can tell teh dash is not one piece with it open like that, and I dont like that look. My brother keeps telling me to fill it in and put led's ********** style :P
to match the colour i'm getting it painted by my buddy with a body shop. the whole thing is going to be primered and repainted to match the original silver one.

Looks great, can't wait to see it finished,
Love the car by the way, I'd like to see a pic of that 88 LX, two sweet cars man!
Did you get your screen from a store in Toronto or did you have to order it online?
