This is actually what I was thinking... make youself a hybrid plastic goop and I bet you'd be set... not sure of a source for PP though... maybe you could do a little experiment... mix up some ABS goop and then find a nice, hidden spot on the back side of a dash panel (marked PP) and smear a small glob on... let it cure and then see how it holds. On the subject of seeing how it holds, I remember doing an experiement with Sintra (poly vinyl material)... we stuck a couple pieces of Sintra together with the Sintra goop (mixed with THF as the solvent)... we let it sit for a bit and then tried breaking it apart... the joint held and one of the pieces of Sintra broke! DOH! Kinda backs up my point of it never cracking out like FG (fiberglass) and bondo...
Anyway... below is a picture after 15-20 minutes of sanding... I knocked some high spots down and have a couple small voids to fill... rather than go the "icing" route, I'm gonna fill it one more time with my ABS goop and sand one more time. I think after that sanding, I should be able to prime and paint. It sands real nice leaving a nice, smooth surface just like the sanded OEM ABS.
I'll post more pics later...

When you are spraying, look for "Plastic bumper" primer. It allows you to use any normal rattle can paint on almost any type of hard plastic, instead of having to make special precautions with mixing primers and paints prior to application with a gun.
When you apply it, it is clear and dries to a very translucent, almost transparent pearl, stick 2 coats of that, 3 coats of normal primer and whatever top coat you want to use (gloss/Satin/matt/texture etc). The paint sticks perfectly and doesn't peel in the slightest.

Thanks for the info on primer and paint... I HATE painting... I absolutely SUCK at it! lol I have actually planned to have another installer friend of mine do the paint as I don't want to screw it up! lmao Anyway, maybe I'll give it a shot... its been ages since I've even tried. I'll do more sanding tonight... then I'll have to go in search of paint supplies. I'll post more pics as they come.

No probs. I've always found plastic a real pain to sand and paint. But it was so easy using the plastic primer. I think the one I bought was Holts in a Black tin with silver/chrome panels on it, but I don't know if the Holts brand of car care stuff is sold in the US, but I imagine, either a car shop would know what you want, or even Rustoleum or Krylon would have something similar for artistic use on plastics.

Rustoleum makes some Plasti-Kote paint which does a good job of adhering directly to platics without the need for primer - I used it to to turn my yellow Earthmate black.
But I don't think the Plasti-Kote is suitable for the dash, since you'll want a close color-match, as well as texturing and from what I've seen, the Plasti-Kote just comes in basic colors.

Yeah, thats why I thought about the specific plastics primers.
That way, once primered, you could get the local auto place to match a paint swatch to either your interior vinyl/plastics, or a contrast colour based on the exterior paint code, and get a good blend, and have it mixed for rattle can.

if you have a colour match what about grit blasting the finished area to give it texture?

Hmm....I have a 48" R/C boat made out of injected ABS...although its very flexibale...doesnt seem like a good material to construct a dash out of, for appearence. Although Bondo can crack...its quicker and strong enough for everyday use unless your caking it on and going offroading. lol
How thick are you applying it?

I need to see if I can get my son to take a picture... I have taken my dash panel with monitor bezel glued in place as shown above and twisted it quite hard... no problem whatsoever... I guess to further test it, I could make room in the freezer to let it get good and cold and do it again... of course, just to prove its structural superiority to fiberglassing and bondoing the bezel into place. If I can get him to take a picture, I'll post it. Anyway, I havne't had a chance to do my final sanding... life always gets in the way of hobbies... I hate it! The weekend is almost here though... I can get some stuff done this weekend for sure.

So what does everyone think? Is this going to replace body filler?

Filler comes in a jar. Easy to use and sand. No thinking involved. I say no. I'd rather pour a resin / microsphere mix.
