Quick Question...
I used really fine ABS pipe shavings (1/2" drill bit and two batteries on my cordless drill) into acetone in a squirt bottle as recommended, but when they melted they formed one big gooey ball that is dissolving very slowly like I had put a big chunk in? Is there any way to avoid this? Thanks in advance.

Give the bottle a little shaking... just like you would the ketchup that would be in the bottle... keeps it mixed up the best... it will also speed up the dissolving I thinking.
I put a quick coat of red primer on the dash to see how bad it really looked... lol It definitely needs more sanding... at this point, I have about 2 hours total work in the dash and I am pretty happy. I however won't cut things short now... I will be out of town for the next few days of a business trip, but hopefully this coming weekend, I can do more sanding... gotta make it perfect... all in all though, it has been very little efforts and I am very pleased with the outcome... primer always brings out all the crappy detail... check it out!

excellent progress.
But you definitly have more than 2 hours into it unless you already had the paste mixed up. Plus the waiting for it dry.
The areas i would be most concerned with are the corners of the screen.
Great progress though and i love the fact that it is bendable and flexable. I am going to have to do a new one

I can't wait to see the final results. I am strongly considering this method when I fabricate my dash.

Well I just started doing my dash this way, and this beats the hell out of using fiberglass. No itching afterwards. You could do this naked if you wanted to. Not that I do...or anything...
However it does take some time for the mixing of the solution and even more for it to dry and settle. Very very easy to make though. If you cannot get abs regrind, then go to kmart or equivalent and get a tub of legos. Got 800 pieces for 12 bucks, or hit yard sales, everyone has legos. Throw a bunch of pieces into squirt bottles and go to town.
Big thanks to coach for teaching everyone who didn't know. As soon as I can I will post some pics in a seperate thread to show how easy it is.

First post here, been lurching on the board for a bout a week or so. This thread made me sign up.
First, I have built a case with a frame of wood and used siding of acrylic. now i had been looking for a way to bond the acryilic so that the cover is all one peice to make it a cleaner looking case. And i would have to say that i would have never thought of using acetone. I am going to go out tomarrow and get some. And some black ABS to mold my cd drive into the dash above my stereo.
To minghi Legos are little plastic building blocks that many kids use to build many different things. check out www.lego.com . Im sure youve seen them.

link posted above. This is really simple stuff to work with. I've used featherlight before and it's a 50/50 mix. Both are in liquid form and once mixed are poured into your mold or what have you. It cures in 20 mins. chopping up lego bits and mixing with acetone is the most assanine thing I've ever heard.

Well mr. assanine, it works. I offered it as an option for those that don't know where to get anything else. I don't really know what featherweight is, and I can already see someone claiming it being my ignorance, but I am only trying to help others, just like the post was started for.
EDIT: Featherlight I apologize.
