SEM paint

I'm getting ready to paint my dash where I mold my lcd screen into. I did a search and people recommended using the SEM line of paints and primers. So I went out today and bought the paint and the primer. When I bought the paint I asked the guy for flat black. I brought the paint home be never payed attention to what paint the guy gave me. The color he gave me is landau black.

What I wanted to know is if this is the correct paint I should be using. I searched on the internet and SEM makes three blacks for the Color Coat line, landau black, satin black and gloss black. (which I don't need)

Should I have gotten the satin black or the should the landau black be fine. Those that have used SEM paint to paint there dash, Altimat and others, what color did you use?

Thanks in advance.

I use SEM paints when I paint my fabricated pieces. What type of finish are you looking for? That will determine what SEM black to buy. I also purchased the primer before and have found that when using SEM paints you achieve the same results without it. Just my .02!

I want it to have an oem look of plastic. The same finish as in the attached picture. I want it to look like the trim around the head unit and climate control. There isn't too much texture on that trim, its pretty smooth.

Don't know if this will help you or not, but if the texture you are trying to achive is very little (can't exactly tell by the pics) after you paint it you can stand back and kind of mist the same spray paint on it.

Thats what I'm planning on doing. I'm not going to be using any texture paint, instead I'm going to do 2 light mist from a distance, I think this will give the perfect effect I'm looking for. I read a post my Altimat where he suggested this. Now I only need to find out if I need to return the paint I got for the satin black. I need to figure this out before tomorrow because I will be at work all day and won't be able to check the forum for suggestion. Plus the place I got the paint from is close to where I work, so I rather go there after work if I need to.

From what I saw in the pictures I know you definitely do not want to swap for Gloss Black. I would go back to the store and see if they have some plastic they you could spray and compare the two. Looks like you want to achieve an oem flat look w/texture. Def try the misting techniqie too...shouldn't be disappointed.

I can't answer for the Audi interiors, but on my truck, the Satin black was a perfect match for the OEM plastic (the landau had a little sheen to it when I compared the two).

Good Luck
