Word... heh, my last dashboard sucks so i'm making a new one.

I'm just curious about what you guys all use to make custom bezels... i'm working with a Datalux LMV10 screen that's been gutted, so i've got a 10.4" open frame LCD with a touchscreen on it.

I was thinking of making the bezel out of ABS so i can try the solvent slurry method rather than the glass/bondo/paint route, but i'm wondering, what's the best way to make an accurate, clean square opening in a sheet of ABS?

For a piece that's not flat (ie, a dash bezel):

Tape off the edges so you have straight lines. Then score the plastic along the edge of the tape with an X-acto knife. Next take a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel and cut along your lines (the scoring will help keep your cuts straight.) Next get some flat files and use them to straighten, shape and smooth your cuts. They work much better than a sanding block or anything like that.

After some patience and TLC with the files, you can have very nice straight cuts.

naah, i'm talking about a sheet of ABS, a flat, square sheet

but i need the opening to be accurate for my touchscreen overlay, the bezel has a habit of interfering with the sensors.

I'd probably just use a square and a straight edge and some clamps to form a guide and use a router to make the cuts. Routers and router bits can get expensive though.

Score the opening well, drill the center, cut the diagonals with a scroll saw, Dremel, jigsaw and backing, whatever - then fold and snap off the 4 triangles on the score lines.
