When I was apoor college student I engraved glass and acrylic easily.
If you wanted a logo etched into glass or acrylic, all you need is a sand blaster. Which of course not everyone has, but its easier to get access to one than a CNC laser...
Masking tape around the piece to be etched one time in each direction (once vert, once horiz). Draw what you want to etch. Then using an x-acto cut out what you want to be actually etched and not clear anymore. Sandblast until desired effect is achieved. As long as you dont go friggen nuts with it, the tape works perfectly fine everytime.
But when it comes to cutting stuff, of course a laser is better (tho isnt a hydro cutter even better...if you need to cut stone...)
So can I get a custom Logo for my car made? See my name is Nate and ym car is a MATRIX, if you cut the M down off the Logo on my car, it becomes NATRIX, it looks stock almost but a logo of my own would be nice...

Yeah, I am still up for cutting some things for people. That bar stock could be cut, however it really depends on the purpose. If you simply wanted it cut to length, use a hacksaw. As for raw material, I don't currently have a place I purchase it from -- Home Depot has been the only one, and it's expensive there. If anybody knows a good place online, I would appreciate it.
sdashiki -- I'm willing to work with people if they can provide me with a vector file, the stock they want it cut from, and the dimensions. I don't do this for a living, so the more help you can provide, the more likely I am to do the work for you.

It can't cut through steel, but it can cut through wood, plastic, rubber, etc...It can etch plastic, burn wood, and can mark metal. It can etch glass, etc... If somebody needs some specific stuff done, let me know and I can give you a really good price. Basically I can do it for shipping plus some material costs. Considering for the most part I would purchase plastic from Home Depot or something, I don't do this as a business, so just let me know if you've got some ideas as to stuff you want done, and I can possibly help. It's a pretty cool tool to have laying around the house.
I'm jumping on!

Not sure... I will let DashCommand reply for himself... I am about to acquire a laser engraver of my very own here soon, and would definitely open to helping people out!
The Alpine piece of acrylic a few posts back would take about 5 minutes to design and etch with a laser engraver.
Lemme know!

DXF is one of the (many) AutoCAD formats... the system receives its direction basically from a printer driver... I usually control it through Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator, and know that
My experience with AutoCAD is that it's printing is a bit wonky compared to standard printing subsystems (with the plotter system, etc.), but DXF files can be imported by Illustrator.
What'cha thinking of doing?

Which make / model?
I just got out of a laser biz, and am looking for good machine owner recommendations.

Its a Epilog 24TT 45Watts, but its actually outputting a little over 50watts.
Epilog's are pretty much the way to go, Universal is pretty good also.
Let me know if you want more details on my laser.
