Volkswagen additional bezel for TMZ lilliput bezel
Hello everyone. I have a Volkswagen GTI that has a double-din hole for the radio. I have a lilliput screen with a TMZ ( www.tmz.com/wrx) bezel for the screen. The TMZ bezel is made for Suburu's however and the volkswagens have a little extra gap all the way around the screen.
Anyhow I finally got around to measuring and drawing up the extra bezel I'll need. You guys should be able to machine this out of T6 alum and slip it right on.
I should have mine made anyday now and will let everyone know how it works, but here is the schematic for it:

Unforunately that place does not ship to the US. I have not found a place in the US that still offers the mkiv adapter, but did find the following place in the UK that ships to the states:

I have most of my stuff on order and may end up ordering one of these just to simplify the lcd install (hopefully). I'll let you guys know how it turns out probably the week after next.

I don't quite understand what to order. Looking at the TMZ kit page, there's a chassis and a chassis with bezel. Would I buy just the chassis from the TMZ site and then have the bezel from this thread made to attach to it? Is the purpose of the chassis to mount to the screen in the double DIN slot?

I think you need both the chassis and bezel...

yeah the bezel that comes with the chassis still leaves a little area exposed in the golf. so you'd need to get the chassis with bezel and sort out this extra bit as well

It would make sense to just make one new bezel to cover the screen instead of making a bezel to cover a bezel, but then again, the TMZ bezel has all the crap on it so you can easily mount the LCD behind it.
I'm curious how this looks!!

black anodized?
I just noticed that the tmz bezel has an option for "black anodized" when you order. What's that look like? Is it glossy? matte? Would it match the VW dash well?

Sorry for the delay I was on vacation.
I dont have it yet, a buddy of mine is doing the work so he had to take my drawing, put it into CAD, then find a piece of alum. big enough and then get free machine time. I think it might be done now (since Ive been on vacation and havent talked with him yet).
Ill keep this thread updated.

Here's a dxf of the bezel
My cousin does CAD work for a living, he drew me a dxf based on the image from the top of the thread. I hosted it here at my yahoo briefcase, they don't do direct linking but it's right at the top level folder.
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/krbyrd/
He and I (mostly I) have a couple of questions:
- How does this fasten? There aren't any mounting holes. I expect they would be on the tabs
- Is this a made on a 3D mill machine out of a solid block?

the two protruding tabs will fit into the existing holes on the radio cage. This should snug it in just fine, but if its still loose just put a piece of velcro on the back of the bezel and on the radio cage.

No idea, the guy making mine is doing it out of a solid block of t6 alum, but Im don't know what machine he is using to do it.
Hope that helps.
