Nice install...may be a stupid question, but what's the device in the cubby?

The 7 inch monitor is also connected to a rear Bumber Camera. So by switching sources the monitor can function as a rear view mirror.

The device in the cubby is the Audiobahn ADDIT51 DAC. It takes the digital SPDIF signal from the PC and converts it to LF, RF, RL, RR, Center and Subwoffer line outs that are driving the amps.

I was thinking it would be awesome if you could somehow get the video signal from the rear mounted camera set to a screen saver so when the driver isn't using RR for 15-30 seconds it would default to the rear view camera. Then when they want to change the song, they just touch the screen and it comes back...just a thought. Switching video modes from the screen is easy too

That audiobahn device seems to be exactly what I need. I should be able to go from an extigy (I run a laptop setup) SPDIF direct to my factory monsoon system (VW)....thanks for sharing!

hmm that would be neat but I would have it set so the frontend changes skin when unactive for a few seconds. In this skin I would have the top or bottom half of the screen showing the rear view camera (so about the same size as a small rear mirror). Then on the other half of the screen you can have some now playing info and GPS directions - arrows etc. Even if you just show the GPS map using FD or MM the arrows will show up and fill the allocated area. You coudl then se tit so when you click on the GPS area if expands and fills the screen and when you click on the music area that does likewise. Then after a few seconds it defaults to the standard view.

The monitor is attached by a custom fabricated quick disconect bracket. That clip into the above space and also secured by a single thumb screw at the base. Removal takes about a minute, and that includes unplugging the monitor connector.

Very nice indeed

But I foresee some difficulties with high mount screen...
I know your in US but in the UK a car with rear visibility has to have a centre rear view mirror, I suppose we just add a second screen for rear view. Only need a cheap LCD.

Also, everyone behind you can see exactly what you are doing or what you are watching, maybe good for Chav points, but not good for coppers as you'll get a ticket.

Is that the only position were its visible with the roof down in daylight though?

Actually as long as it displays a static screen such as the rear view, GPS, or one of the front end control screens (Road Runner) then it is perfectly legal.

We just can not have a movie or music video playing while driving. The nice thing about the S2000 is when the top is up. And because the car is low to the ground and the rear window is small. The monitor is not visible to the driver of a car behind it. So until you walk right up to the car you do not know it is there. There is a broad dark tint strip across the top of the wind shield that hides the view of the monitor from the front. As well as a strategically placed Accent Sound sticker.

Of course prudence is called for when the car is driven with the top down. Then No movies or other video entertainment when the coppers are around.
